Talk about a blast from the past as Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Kevin Sorbo has joined the cast of Supergirl season two as a mysterious new villain that will surely cause Herculean-sized trouble for Kara. No further details were provided, but he's expected to debut during the latter half of this season.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement following the announcement where he expressed his excitement: "Since his days as Hercules, Kevin Sorbo has brought such a strong presence
to the screen and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join us on Supergirl."

This latest piece of news comes days after it was announced that former Lois & Clark star Teri Hatcher had also been cast as a mysterious major villain - said to be the season's newest big bad. It's unclear whether we'll see Hatcher & Sorbo cross paths, but guess we'll all find out together in the coming weeks.

Sorbo is best known as television's Hercules, having played the role in five television movies in 1994 before starring in his own hit TV series that ran six seasons from 1995-1999. He later headlined the sci-fi series Andromeda and more recently has made guest appearances on a number of shows, including Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23Hawaii Five-0Psych, Two and a Half Men, and The O.C.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The hour-long drama centers on Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl

Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter

Very but very interesting.

I think he could be a good Lobo, especially after that throwaway reference Alex & J'onn made about him back in S1.

But he could also be Zod as the first user that posted here said.

Finally if his casting is just being made now public along with Teri Hatcher's that can only mean that their characters are bound to show up pretty darn soon on the show.

I am officially hyped for the upcoming episodes.

@NinnesMBC - I don't think he can be Zod. Superman killed Zod.

@WonderDog - That hasn't been ever stated in the show. You're thinking on Man of Steel or even the 1st Superman movie with Christopher Reeve.

Absolutely loved Hercules and Xena, such an awesome show growing up.
Glad to see Kevin Sorbo in another show, and Lucy Lawless in Ash V the Evil Dead.

Also it was the first big role for Karl Urban, and Ryan Gosling played young Hercules in the spin off show.

@ComicsBornAndBred - that bastard may attack MMH off set and tell the director "he was fighting off a bottom feeding alien , in the name of justice" :)

Liked him more in Andromeda than Hercules.

Talking of adding blast-from-the-past actors to the show, here's a thought... if there are so many alternative Earth's, why can't we have an episode where Tom Welling *mysteriously appears as Superman from "his" Earth?

*About time Kara did some exploring in her show version of the Fortress of Solitude, eh?

One gets the impression with these castings they are relying on nostalgic star power a lot!
