SUPERGIRL: SMALLVILLE Star Erica Durance Taking Over From Laura Benanti As Alura In Season 3

In a shock move, it's been announced today that Smallville's Lois Lane Erica Durance has been cast as Alura in season three of Supergirl, a role previously held by actress Laura Benanti. Check it out!

Laura Benanti played Alura Zor-El and Astra In-Ze (the Girl of Steel mother and aunt) in the first season of Supergirl and made sporadic appearances in the second as well. Shockingly, The CW has announced today that she's left the series due to scheduling issues but it's not all bad news as a very impressive replacement has been found in Smallville alum Erica Durance. That's right, the former Lois Lane!

"Unfortunately Laura, who Greg and I have worked with for years going back to Eli Stone, was unable to continue in the role due to work commitments in NY," said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement released today regarding this major casting change. "But we are so blessed that Erica has come aboard to offer her own interpretation of Kara’s mother. We had tremendous success with a former Lois Lane last season with Teri Hatcher. We know Erica will continue the proud tradition of legacy actors joining our shows and creating new and exciting takes on classic DC characters."

A strong noblewoman, Alura sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance
echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl. Fans have been wondering if Durance could make her return to the DC TV Universe and this feels like a perfect fit for the actress. The question now is whether or not Tom Welling will follow!

@MasterMix - Not as good as her coming out of the lake in her red bikini in that Aquaman episode :) Boy that image. And FYI, that image in the first season of Smallville where Lana takes her clothes off to skinny-deep into the school pool? That gorgeous shot of her butt? Body double. They said so at the time. Broke the dream lol

Ha I see what you did there with that banner.

Welcome back Erica Durance!

They must need Alura for flashbacks of Krypton before it died to explore Reign's origins or for more hologram talks mixed with that with Kara.

First Laura Vandervoort and now she. Interesting.

Only watched half of Smallville, but for me Erica Is the hottest Lois, , with Teri Hatcher a very close second.

Both embodied Lois amazingly, still feel Amy Adams is miscast in the role, despite being an amazing actress and proving her acting prowess in many other parts.

@SimplyAz - I agree. To me, Amy Adams is also miscast in the role. She is indeed an amazing actress, and seems to be such a nice human being and a hard-working woman, but no matter what iteration of Lois I take in all the years I've read DC comics, I see little connection between the 2 women, except for courage and kindness. Lois is supposed to be entitled and insolent, with a great heart underneath. She's also supposed to be hot, which to me Amy Adams isn't. I know I sound like a dick for saying that, but when I saw her in some MoS and BvS scenes, I thought "In what world would a guy like Henry Cavill fall for that girl?" I know it's a shitty thing to say, but it's how I felt. She was perfect as a smart scientist in Arrival, but as a hot and sassy reporter? Didn't work for me.

@Asturgis -

She is an attractive woman and this is evident in something like Hustle
But sometimes having an award winning actor/actress doesn't necessarily mean that they are right for the role, for example Chris Evans was a hit and miss actor before excelling as Cap, and Gal Gadot was a minor supporting actress but excelled as Wonder Woman. Would Oscar winning Actors/actresses have done better?

Also would add the lack of chemistry her and Henry Cavill have plays a big factor.

@SimplyAz - Adams is miscast, Eisenberg is miscast, Leto is miscast

@Owlman88 -

Man Leto still feels like a missed opportunity. Like what were the Writers, Ayer and Leto doing?
Instead of making him Wacky, "Baddass" and Extreme, they should have played him straight, but felt like a bad parody with awful dialogue.

Eisenberg should have played Ridler, what the heck was Snyder thinking?

@SimplyAz - I don't find her attractive in any remote way, but that's my problem :) As far as chemistry goes, you're right, and also I would add that what worked against her was the shit they wrote for her. I was annoyed at her from the start when I saw her climb down an ice wall in high heels to enter the ship. That was absurd. One image you see a 30-foot drop covered in ice, she's standing on top of the cliff, then the next she just steps inside the ship. Mad skills. Then she figures things out she never should have in a matter of seconds, gets to waltz in the middle of military personnel training their weapons on Superman to talk to him as if no one was there, it was all really silly. It didn't serve the character.

@SimplyAz - Agreed 100%. Adams is gorgeous and an amazing actress, but severaly miscast. Always wanted Olivia Wilde as Lois :( Maybe she can be my next choice of Zatanna

@SimplyAz - they gutted all of Leto's scenes to appeal to the idiots who idolize the Harley/Joker rainbows and unicorns relationship, had they released the full cut, with Leto acting like the actual, ABUSIVE, evil Joker.......maybe it would've shined a different light on his performance.

@Asturgis -

So many issues, also a lot of the scenes of her being forced into the plot, just to give her scenes.

@Menks123 -

Man, Olivia has always been my first choice as well, and would have suited her more as well.

@DENNISsystem -

Yep, turning it into Twilight was dumb. Also Joker was amazing to her in the movie, where was the domestic violence for Harley to turn her back onto him?

I'm looking forward to when Michael and Tom show up as cast members in Supergirl.

I personally wish Erica was playing a new part instead of taking over a role from someone else, but am happy to hear she'll join the show none the less.
