Both The Flash and Arrow have seen their titular have seen their lead heroes adopt several new costumes in the past few years, but Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl has pretty much remained in the same suit since Season 1. However, it seems that will all change in the upcoming fifth season.

During a chat with director Kevin Smith at Twitch Prime's Apex Legends Crown Cup, the Supergirl star confirmed Kara Danvers will receive a new costume when she returns to the small screen this fall.

While we’ll likely have to wait a bit until we get our first official look at the Girl of Steel’s new look, the actress did reveal that the costume will be ditching the red skirt for a pair of pants.

As Kevin Smith and Melissa Benoist note in the interview, this design change didn’t come out of the blue. After all, even the most recent season of show poked some fun at the impracticality of fighting in a skirt when Red Daughter mocked Kara’s outfit during one of their confrontations.

Plus, as Benoist mentioned, it will undoubtedly be nice to wear some pants while filming scenes during cold Vancouver nights.

Season 5 of Supergirl is scheduled to premiere October 6, 2019 on The CW.

I never thought this show would make it to 5 seasons, so kudos to the production team and everyone involved.

@tmp3 - Give that man anything. He's 3 for 3. Stone and Gosling are his muses, so that's awesome.

@SmokingMan - I hope Gosling's back too. Love that guy

@tmp3 - Agreed. Gosling since Drive, maybe even before has really just been top notch. I love his more quiet performances. I just watched First Man a few weeks ago, and shit. That movie stuck with me.

@SmokingMan - Yep. Especially loved First Man's score, was hoping it'd win the Oscar for that. Gosling's quiet, internal performances are all incredible; thought he was especially good in Blade Runner and, of course, Drive

@tmp3 - Blade Runner 2049 was also one of the best Harrison Ford performances I've seen, in a while, or even ever. That scene between them in the orange bar talking, was beautiful. Villeneuve is another current director I always keep my eye on

@SmokingMan - Villeneuve is in the same camp as Nolan in that both are really experienced auteurs making really intelligent genre films and it's awesome. I really can't wait for Dune.

@LordDaredevil - Yep, Dune & Tenet are the two films of 2020 I'm the most anticipated for

Well, that's nice to know. Frankly, Arrow changes his costume every other season.

I don't watch Supergirl but i've always said her costume is the best around. Really love it they did a great job.

Doesn't matter that much. I'm actually surprised they didn't go this way from the start.

My opinion.

Unlike some other suits I felt they already got it 98% right. I just prefer a yellow background on the S.

They hit it out of the park from the start costume wise.

The appeal of a new suit is because Green Arrow and Flash have went through a few but never got it all the way right.

If we are getting a permanent new suit. I want a full yellow background on the S. If anything I'd go a "PowerWoman" route with colors and some cape styling. I don't want to see a boob window or swimsuit. It would be a nice way to have her stand on her own

I thought this was gonna be about the recent news about Melissa stepping behind the camera and directing her first episode, which would be the 5x17.

But this is also relevant I guess. I will miss the OG suit, it was perfect so I wonder how the pants will be like.

Also who will design it. Winn did that one. Maybe Brainy, he gave Nia sketches of her successor's suits although she wore her mother's. I don't mind if he does it, he did do after all Mon-El's which was sick.

Also it's pretty cool she and Chris Wood have a framed picture of themselves flying as she said there.

And Jon Cryer's Lex is the GOAT. I loved Michael Rosenbaum but Cryer's top notch as well.

One reason she hasn’t had as many costume changes as her primary CW peers could be that it was pretty much comic accurate to begin with unlike Oliver and Barry’s. Changing something else for the skirt would make sense though. I never got the idea for going with the same theme as Kal’s suit and having the blue background for the “S” so I wouldn’t mind a a change for that as well.
