Supergirl returns this Sunday with an action-packed new installment, as Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) join J'onn (David Harewood) on a time-sensitive mission to track down Malefic (Phil LaMarr) before he can put his nefarious plan in motion.

Meanwhile, after an emotional sendoff last week, it looks like both Jimmy (Mehcad Brooks) and Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) will be back for happy hour on Sunday with the whole gang seemingly in attendance.

"In Plain Sight" - (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)

SAYING GOODBYE IS HARD TO DO - Kara's (Melissa Benoist) investigation into William Dey's (Staz Nair) "criminal" activities results in the shocking revelation he is not who she thinks. Meanwhile, the conflict between Malefic and J'onn J'onzz (David Harewood) reaches a boiling point. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Jay Faerber & Jess Kardos (#504). Original airdate 10/27/2019.

Hoping this season picks up, because right now I'd say the first three episodes compare to the first 3 episodes of the other seasons as follows:

1. S4
2. S3
3. S2
4. S5
5. S1

After such a great 4th season, this season has been overall a disappointment so far. Its not bad, but its not good either.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I would have to agree. It feels like it's trying to find it's footing, but doesn't know what it wants to be yet. Granted I think almost all of her seasons have been this way to a degree, but S4 definitely knew more or what it wanted to be then this season has yet.

HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 5:56 PM
@batmbl - very true. Season 4 knew from the very first episode what it wanted to be, that was such a tight knit and strong storyline with Agent Liberty. But this season, I have no idea what they are aiming for. Each episode I think I know what the focus is, only for the next episode to change that up and point things in a new direction. And the storylines also aren't that strong either this season. J'onns brother is certainly the strongest, but they should expand more on that and not waste time on some of these other weaker stories.

@HeavyMetal4Life - If I remember correctly aren't they supposed to be doing two core villains this season. One for before Crisis and one for after? We're halfway to that point since the crossover is normally episode 8 or 9 and we don't know who that is exactly. I'm guessing it's J'onns brother, but who knows at this point.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 6:11 PM
@batmbl - yes, I believe so (I know this is what they are doing for Flash). Maybe Leviathan will be the back half villain, since they were teased at the end of season 4. Problem is, the first half of this season is teasing J'onns brother, Lena, and the Obsidian lady, plus villains of the week. Its too much with no singular focus.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I agree completely. I just hope the Crisis makes Lena come to her senses as her motivation although in some terms are just are very thin at the same time when they took so long to make us believe she is a good person from a bad family. I'm guessing James will leave by the end of the mid-season too from the sounds of it anyway. I thought the last episode was a perfect way to give him a swan song, but they left that hanging as well.

HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 6:24 PM
@batmbl - I kind of hope James stays, what was the perfect way they gave me to leave? I forget

batmbl - 10/25/2019, 6:32 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Towards the end of the episode when his sister said you have decisions to make it felt like a feed for him to say it was time for him to move on, but he said you're my priority. I can appreciate his sister being a priority, but they're basically teasing his leaving at this point. Especially after he stepped down from CatCo and he's just been somewhat of a side character since then. One of the gang helping when he can, but no real path or job for that matter.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 6:35 PM
@batmbl - fair enough, I agree with a lot of that. Would rather see him as like a DEO agent or at least full time Guardian.
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 7:02 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - I agree with you there too. When they announced he was leaving it was a little bitter sweet for me. At first I wasn't fond of him because he doesn't look or act like the Jimmy Olsen we know and love in the comics, but what they did with him over the course of the series made like him for James the character and Guardian. I do think they've been under-utilizing him as of late and that may be the reason he's leaving as well.

HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 7:06 PM
@batmbl - wait was there an announcement earlier this year that he was leaving this season?
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 7:13 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Yes there was. I remember seeing it on here, but I can't find the article. Here I believe is the original source:

HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 7:38 PM
@batmbl - ahh thanks for this. Damn, that's a big loss right there. If he goes then his sister should go too, don't really care for her. But now I can understand the direction they are taking James this season.
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 7:42 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah I'm not fond of her either. I don't know what it is exactly, but she's the most annoying on the show this season.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 7:49 PM
@batmbl - of the 'main' characters this season, yeah she is the most annoying.
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 7:54 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Brainy is being extremely annoying to Nia, but I actually find that pretty funny myself.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 8:00 PM
@batmbl - that was funny, I understand where he is coming from.

I really want evil Brainy to return (and this break-up might pave the way for this to happen).
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 8:35 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - That would be cool if he does return. I'm wondering if we'll see any of the Legion during the Crisis?
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 8:38 PM
@batmbl - I don't think we will
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 8:41 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - I'm thinking the same thing, but that would be a nice surprise if they did. Berlanti claims there's still plenty of surprises in store for the crossover so we'll see.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 8:47 PM
@batmbl - good! The more surprises the better. I do really like Mon-el, so him returning would be really nice. But at least we know that team Supergirl will be fully involved this year in the fights: Brainy, Dreamer, and uh yeah Alex.
batmbl
batmbl - 10/25/2019, 9:10 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah Alex...Yay!!!...I'm hoping plenty of J'onn too!!!
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 10/25/2019, 9:25 PM
@batmbl - yeah plenty of J'onn would be nice.

At some point, would like to learn why the Monitor brought his brother back.

@batmbl - Yeah, but those days are over. An ACCUSATION is enough to end a career nowadays, especially for men. Whether you're found guilty or not later is irrelevant.

Kara, Alex and J'onn appear to have followed Malefic into an aquarium.

William's secret should earn him some redeemable points in front of Kara, although who knows if whatever he is doing is for "the greater good" like Lena's actions or something necessary Kara will have to put up with.

Been enjoying this tech themed storyline and I think it'll continue to gear up more. A clue about the shadow assassin from last week would be sweet as well.
