CBS has today confirmed that Supergirl has been ordered to series for the 2015-16 season. This is the first show to be picked up this year, but an early decision was part of the original deal (presumably so Warner Bros. could take the show elsewhere if the network wasn't interested).

Supergirl will revolve around Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who escaped Krypton amid its destruction years ago, and has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, since arriving on Earth. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always meant to be.

The rest of the cast includes Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Mehcad Brooks, Laura Benanti, Dean Cain, and Helen Slater. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are writing the one-hour drama, and also executive producing, along with Sarah Schecter and Andrew Kreisberg.

Are you looking forward to the show's debut?

I am very much looking forward to the shows debut!!
I still don't understand the casting choice for Jimmy Olson.
Hopefully the show will be good and be a big hit for CBS.

Nice! I'm hoping that this show can capitalize on Superman's extensive, untapped rogue's gallery the same way Arrow and the Flash have been plumbing the depths of DC's B- and C-list rosters. Starting the show with Winslow Schott and Hank Henshaw in the supporting cast is a good sign, but I want more-- Silver Banshee, LiveWire, Parasite, the works!

There are LOTS of low-level Superman villains who ain't never hitting the big screen... Why not show 'em some love here?

I hope it'll be connected to the Arrowverse. And damn, I want them to introduce a DCAU like Question, so that he can wander from show to show and freak everyone out with his paranoid behaviour.

Why not cw??? Doubt we get tv network rossover...difficult. Don't expect much form this show thougH. Do we need a supergirl series?? Its like executives were thinking "very other cb tv showon right now has worked lets try this, we cant fail". I'd love to see a vixen series Instead

I really don't like her look. She's cute, but doesn't quite fit the bill of Supergirl.

main concerns about this show, dont let it become heavily influenced by love stories...we dont need another Olicity, maybe on the level of Barry and Iris if they really have to (but you know, make Supergirl's love interest not be annoying)

dont let it be another Smallville, we have seen it all before, just do it Flash style and it will be great (with the extra story of her dealing with the loss of her world)

please, let this show include aliens as bad guys, even if it is only one big one (with alien henchmen) in Season 1 (that leads to more aliens in potential future seasons). Apart from maybe the upcoming Titans/Blackbirds, theres no other superhero tv show that can feature alien bad guys (plus all the CW shows already cover the other type of comic book characters), so use Supergirl to introduce aliens.

also, do an Arrowverse on it, introduce all the alien characters and Superman-related villains/allies that will never be used in the movies

also, from what I have read, the writer guy from Flash and Arrow, is open to crossovers but the president of the CBS network is not open to crossovers yet. Hopefully this means a middle ground: CBS wants to see how the series fares by itself first...and if the show is successful and potentially gets a Season 2, then CBS will be open to crossovers

This is for the best, as if the show sucks, you dont want it in the Arrowverse, plus Arrow and Flash made sense to crossover during Flash's first season, because Barry Allen was introduced in Arrow. Supergirl is going to be on another network, she will be introduced on her own show and if the show ends up existing in the Arrowverse, it will introduce aliens...very different to Arrow and Flash

above all, lets hope this show will be like any other comic book show, adapt Supergirl perfectly and make it a good show to watch every week

It says it's a one hour drama. Don't we have enough of those from DC?

Melissa Benoist is a good lookin' chick if you google her, but the promo shots of her in the suit just don't do it for me. I'd like this concept better if she showed up on Flash/Arrow and whatever this other spinoff is supposed to be.
