SUPERGIRL Ups Brainiac-5 Actor Jesse Rath To Series Regular; Jeremy Jordan Shifts To Recurring For Season 4

The CW has really been making some moves and now, they've announced that Jeremy Jordan will return in a recurring capacity next season while Brainiac-5 actor Jesse Rath has been promoted to series regular.

Supergirl is making some pretty big changes for its fourth season as TV Line has learned that Jesse Rath (Brainiac-5) has been promoted to a series regular and that Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), who has been a regular since the show's inception, will now shift to a recurring role moving forward.

It's uncertain what led to Jordan's surprising role shift, but executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller did their best to assure fans that he'll definitely be around for several Winn-centric stories next fall. "We love Jeremy, and even though he’s [not going to be around full-time], we’re not saying goodbye to Winn at all. We’re already breaking big stories for him right now for the fall, and I think the fans will be excited to see what he has coming up.” They also add that Winn's new direction will be "fulfilling his full potential," which is interesting to say the least, although it's hard not to wonder whether this could be our first sign that Jordan may be ready to move on from the DC TV universe.

Meanwhile, as for Rath's promotion, Rovner and Queller said, “We love the character of Brainiac-5 and can’t imagine anyone but Jesse Rath in the role. He brings such fun, heart and brilliance to Brainy, and we’re so excited he’s joining the cast as a series regular for season 4. We have a lot of great Brainy stories to tell.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Welcome Querl Dox.

This is giving more substance to what that guy on Twitter felt so compelled in spoiling (SMH)

But Brainiac-5 /=/ Winn. With that said, I am gonna miss Winn a lot by now seeing how these are being confirmed. Hopefully he can be back down the future as regular like Colton Haynes will for S7 of Arrow.

Really curious how they are gonna handle it all next week.

“We love Jeremy, and even though he’s [not going to be around full-time], we’re not saying goodbye to Winn at all,” executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller tell TVLine. “We’re already breaking big stories for him right now for the fall, and I think the fans will be excited to see what he has coming up.”

You better. :C

"Though the details surrounding Winn’s future are being under wraps for now — they’ll be revealed over the course of Monday’s season finale (The CW, 8/7c) — Rovner and Queller assure us that his next steps will be true to his character, adding that he’s ultimately “fulfilling his full potential.”

Proving further that he is going to the future for some reason as those spoilers (SMH) spoiled.

As long as they never really let him go like Arrow did with other characters (Thea) then I can live with it. Still sad that they are letting of of Kara's best friend that was nice with her from her first day at CatCo to when she told him who she was. Even their almost friendship-break up phase in S1 had weight and when they made up it was one of the warmest moments in the show back in S1.

Plus I feel that if anything the one character in the show that should be recurring should be Superman. Wasn't Cat said to also be a recurring character but she only had that one cameo at the start of the show from Washington?

Hopefully he goes out with a Winn.

With that said we are not getting anytime in the future a Legion of Super-Heroes spin-off with Brainiac-5 now a regular while it seems Saturn Girl and Mon-El (and Chameleon Boy) and all those other that were in the stasis pods are back in the 31th century. There is no Legion without Brainy.

Oh well, patience's a virtue like we say in my family.

OFF-TOPIC but it seems Netflix has picked up Lucifer.

Nice.

But what about Designated Survivor? D:

@NinnesMBC - Really surprised about that, really other than Arrested Development, has Netflix revived any other show besides Arrested Development and now Lucifer, I figured Arrested Development was more of a test run since im pretty sure it was the first "original" program Netflix had produced

I just heard a rumor online and from Mr. Sunday Movies on the Weekly Planet podcast that Kathleen Kennedy may leave her role at Lucasfilm in September.

With Brainiac-5 now a regular it means he must be in the Gotham City Batwoman crossover.

Can not wait for the interactions.

@NinnesMBC - hopefully this year they finally figure out a reason for Martian Manhunter, Guardian, Braniac 5, and Mon-El to get in on the crossover. Although one thing that sucks is that since Winn isnt a regular anymore he probably will have little to no role in the crossover, so we will never see him meet Cisco
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 6/16/2018, 8:12 PM
@dracula - Yeah, that always irks me. Pretty much the majority that are now appearing in the crossovers are regulars from their respective shows but J'onn? Nope. Winn? Nope. Jimmy? Hell nope. I could get why Mon-El did not in Heroes v Aliens because he hadn't even began his training nor was a Legionnaire with 7 years of experience but at this point for the Gotham Batwoman crossover hell yeah they should try to bring more of the cavalry from Supergirl's cast. It's about time.

But I could also say the same thing with Flash with not trying to bring Wally for the Earth-X event. Nor Jesse, Jay or even a helping hand from Ralph even if he was gonna look hilarious with his current costume back then. Aaand I could say the same with Legends, Rip has missed all of them since the start! Now he's dead. :P

I really wish they improve all of that this year. I'll take any cameo from Winn as well.
dracula
dracula - 6/16/2018, 9:56 PM
@NinnesMBC - I can understand why they didn't include Jesse, Jay and Ralph, they aren't main characters, and neither was Ralph until next season. Also the reason they couldn't get in on Heroes VS Aliens, was because they had already planned the crossover out by the time they found out CW was picking up Supergirl.

They could have done more to the Kara/Winn friendship. He was her only friend and best one (apart of Alex).
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 6/15/2018, 6:56 PM
@NatchiosElektra - Yeah I agree, the issue is that they sidelined him too much ever since S2 by making her and Lena interact way too much and even making her say in the mid-Season finale that Kara had never had best friends in front of her and Sam which is was a bit of a retcon that ignores Winn whose been there since the prologue when she first arrived at CatCo.

Those two always been psyched and on point with each other, almost like they think the same or react to things in the same way. And their friendship was a strong one. I don't think they retconned it, they just didn't focus too much on it.

Hopefully if he is leaving somewhere there is a callback to when Kara told him that she could understand how his dad felt about him not being in his life due to she also would feel the same if he wasn't in hers. If S3 is his temporary farewell they gotta make it work.

(missed some gifs and hopefully they all work, gotta prepare for this Monday)
NatchiosElektra
NatchiosElektra - 6/15/2018, 7:16 PM
@NinnesMBC - I really hope so. It was sad when they made Kara say the thing about never having best friends. And the fact that when they talk most of the time it's only about work and in the DEO.
P.D: The gifs are great!!
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 6/15/2018, 9:31 PM
@NatchiosElektra - More than sad I think it was a "wait what?" kinda of moment for us the audience. The show has sinned more than once through the years by propping up the female bonds over the ones the males ones that are mixed with the ladies just to keep it's female tone and it does not work. Funny thing is that someone on Tumblr made a gifset after that pointing out how off it really was.

http://fatedxdestiny.tumblr.com/post/168233132281/oh-snap-winn-kara-never-had-a-best

I never minded their plance when they interact and meet, just because even though now they've been giving them less screentime it wasn't like their friendship ever was lessened. Like old friends you don't see for a long time yet you are always close to no matter what.

Thanks! I was worried for a second. I'm gonna be ready for this Monday for his goodbye and the shenanigans behind them to honor their bond.

I will never understand how the obvious choice to play Jimmy Olsen got cast as Toy Boy. Or how utterly pointless they rendered their absurdly attractive ebony Adonis Jimmy.

I mean, there's a lot about Supergirl I do actually like, but those two have been a drain on this show since day one. Not even because they're bad, but just because the whole sister-government-and-increasingly-alien-and-future stuff is what the show wants to be about a hell of a lot more than some vague media company.
