Superman & Lois delivered yet another unexpected twist, as following Lois' (Elizabeth Tulloch) false pregnancy news last week, we learned that her true diagnosis is far direr as her follow-up tests revealed that she actually has inflammatory breast cancer, which is both rare and aggressive - and something her Kryptonian husband can't do anything about.
Speaking with TV Line, Elizabeth Tulloch revealed her initial thoughts about learning about her big plotline this season and how it will ultimately serve as season three's primary antagonist for the entire Kent family, “I was a little shocked when [the producers] first told me that’s what they wanted to do. But I actually think it’s pretty wonderful. This storyline hasn’t been done, and cancer is such a prevalent force in so many people’s lives. This villain is so relatable and so real, and more than anything it’s one that Clark and Superman can’t just go handle.
For Superman, who is this all-powerful superhero, to be faced with something he’s completely powerless against is even more grounding for the show, and it places a greater emphasis on the strength of us as a couple and the family dynamic. I thought it was exciting, and I hope the fans feel the same way.”
As for next week, while Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) hopes to help her find a treatment plan, Lois will continue to do what she does best and dig deeper into Bruno Mannheim (Chad L. Coleman), dragging Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) with her. Meanwhile, Jonathan (Michael Bishop), Jordan (Alex Garfin), and Nat (Taylor Buck) run into unexpected trouble when they try to do a good deed.
