Almost exactly one year after production was forced to halt due to the global coronavirus outbreak, The Flash is officially back on our screens, and tonight's premiere proved to be quite an eventful hour as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team put a dangerous plan in motion in order to get the Artificial Speed Force to work, ultimately resulting in Nash (Tom Cavanagh) making the ultimate sacrifice.
Now, while things are looking grim for all the Wellses, showrunner Eric Wallace has confirmed to TV Line that Cavanagh isn't leaving the series.
"Fans of Tom Cavanagh, you should keep watching this show.’ Just because somebody’s dead doesn’t mean they don’t have plenty more to do.”
Next week's installment will pick up almost immediately after the events of tonight's premiere with us learning more about the fate of Iris' (Candice Patton) email. Elsewhere, it looks like Barry will be gaining a new superpower - speed thinking - which will undoubtedly prove to be extremely useful as he tries to rescue his wife from the MirrorVerse.
"The Speed of Thought" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)
BARRY GAINS A NEW SKILL - When Barry (Grant Gustin) suddenly gains the power of speed thinking, he attempts to use his new gift to save Iris (Candice Patton). While Barry is thrilled with his new power, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is hesitant to trust it. Meanwhile, Eva (guest star Efrat Dor) must face a shattering truth. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Gabriel Garza (#702). Original airdate 3/9/2021.
Barry Allen lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry's life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive - The Flash. After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master victorious and still-at-large in Central City, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen. With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Ralph Dibny, and Nash Wells, as well as the Flash's adoptive father Joe West, Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton, tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk... Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he'll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team - and his marriage - apart.
The Flash returns with a brand new episode on March 9
