HOUSE OF THE DRAGON: A Despicable New Villain Emerges In The Form Of... Larys Strong? SPOILERS

This week's episode of House of the Dragon saw the emergence of arguably the most ruthless, despicable villain in the history of Westeros. Worse than Joffrey? Well, find out what Larys Strong did...

We all knew the time-jump was coming, and episode 6 of HBO's House of the Dragon commences a whole decade after the events of last week's instalment.

Everyone seems to have grown significantly more bitter over the past 10 years, but it was a relatively minor character who took things to shocking new levels and emerged as this show's - and possibly even the Game of Thrones franchise's - most ruthless villain.

If you haven't watched "The Princess and The Queen" yet, major spoilers follow.

We are, of course, talking about the man who's been dubbed "the new Littlefinger," Larys Strong.

The less renowned and respected son of the Hand of the King only made a couple of brief appearances over the course of the first 5 episodes, but clearly found a way to manipulate his way into Queen Alicent Hightower's confidence over the years. Frustrated by King Viserys' refusal to acknowledge his daughter's transgressions (Rhaenyra's sons were fathered by Harwin "Breakbones" Strong), Alicent confides in Larys and bemoans the fact that nobody will take her side.

Larys' solution? Murder his own father and brother!

Yes, the limping little shit takes extreme measures in an attempt to pave the way for Alicent's father, Otto Hightower, to return to her side and resume his position at court by offing the current Hand of the King, who just so happens to be his father. Since Harwin is also a source of the Queen's troubles and a potentially very powerful ally to the princess, he figures taking his brother off the board would do no harm, and hires a group of death-row inmates to set a fire in their chambers at Harrenhal.

We have seen a lot of characters (Joffrey, Ramsay, Stannis, etc) do some pretty heinous things in Game of Thrones, but killing your own family to gain a bit more political leverage has to be among the worst.

Alicent is visibly disgusted by Larys' actions, but she knows he has her over a proverbial barrel if she decides to give him up. Will Rhaenyra believe the fire was accidental? We wouldn't bet on it, and a confrontation between these former friends is brewing.

Really enjoyed the series so far, but man did I not like there interpretation of Larys. They are really laying the mustach twirling on thick with him. I know his motivation in the books are never fully explained, so he's not as outright evil as the tv version and I prefer it that way. He just feels way to much like littlefinger for my taste.

@CurlyBill - I kind of agree but also see his motivations and being crippled in that type of era would not be seen like it is today and he would’ve been mocked and derided and with an able bodied older brother- I can see a level of resentment building over years- that and taking out his father and brother improve his lot in life as he now is lord of harrenhall and it’s fortunes.

@jungletrooper - That's honestly what I got too. He's a weak person who doesn't have the strength, nor the commanding presence to take power by any other means than through seer cunning and deception. He's comes off as very resentful, cynical and jaded; though he doesn't show it. Plus, he's probably a sociopath, which in Westeros is quite normal among the powerful.

Imma need Daemon to F SHIT UP again. I got my fill in episode 3, but I'm craving more Daemon again. The scheming and politicking is getting tiresome, they're laying it too thick too often. Even the end of ep 6 was just predictable to me. It was cool in the original GOT but now you expect it from the jump and they're also not doing a good job keeping things fresh and unexpected, Larys is like a caricature version of Littlefinger.

This the kind of guy you'd be stupid to fully trust but also stupid to get on his bad side.

I'm enjoying the show, but I just can't get over the utter stupidity of Rhaenyra's character's having 3 kids who are VERY OBVIOUSLY the children of her bodyguard. Did she not think anyone would notice? Could she not have ONE child with her husband, just to throw off suspicion?
