GAME OF THRONES Spinoff Set Photo Gives Us A First Look At Naomi Watts In Costume

The Game of Thrones prequel series is currently filming in Italy, and a photo from the set has now been shared online.

The pic gives us our first look at star Naomi Watts decked out in her mysterious character's extravagant outfit. The color of her dress might have led us to assume she was playing a Lannister, but George R.R. Martin has already confirmed that the most powerful family in Westeros won't actually appear.

HBO has done an admirable job of keeping plot and character details firmly under wraps, but we do know that the show will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and will likely build towards The White Walkers' first attempt to wipe out humankind, aka The Long Night.

Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) is on board as showrunner, while S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) will helm the pilot.

The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo in undisclosed roles. The working title is "Bloodmoon," but that's expected to change. The spinoff is set to air sometime next year.

You can check out a recently released production still along with some behind-the-scenes photos from the final season of GoT below.

Yknow despite how the series ended I’m still interested in this. D.B weiss and David Benioff aren’t involved as far as I’m aware and I do love that world. After they dipped out of their Comic Con panel I’m not really interested in whatever they do with Star Wars

@Ha1frican - I wish that I could get excited for this, I truly do. Especially since D&D luckily won't be involved, but Season 8 left such a bad taste in my mouth that even brushing my teeth using a brillo pad and washing out with Drano won't make it go away.

I know its pathetic, but im still so bitter about that finale. And so conflicted about the spinoff. I was excited about it for a long time but now everything got-related just makes me want to barf :/

@rebellion - you and the rest of us!! Im physically detested by the fact they are doing a "prequel" - like honestly who gives a flying frick!! They could have at least done sequel spin off to right the wrongs of that dreadful final season! Im getting angry writing this...honestly how fricking dare they end it like that...knowing we as the viewers had invested time and passion into the series. Fricking tool bags! Im done..

@rebellion - Same. First it was The Last Jedi killing my enthusiasm for Star Wars, then this...smh..

I will say that the new Star Wars trailer did look good, and hopefully I'll get my love back for Thrones when GRRM finally releases Winds of Winter...

@OptimusGrime - Only prequel we should've gotten if any was Robert's rebellion

@TheGrayGhost - Why? They did all that in Games.

@rebellion - Don't worry. We're all bitter and forever will be. I'll still check out set pics and locations, but that's it. This "prequel" idea was made as a cash grab and as a consolation prize for the disaster of the final season. I'm not even sure I'll read the books when they eventually come out in 80 years.

@TheLight - i gave the books away, couldnt stand seeing them on the shelf anymore XD this brand might be ruined for me. Beyond repair.

@Battabing - Actually flesh out the events and what transpires. Plus the battles would be great. In GoT we rarely got any true large scale traditional battles between houses.

I haven't been following this project, how involved in Martin in it? Jane Goldman's talented, but she's also never show-run a TV show before, so I'm interested in how this goes.

@tmp3 - I think he just threw around the idea for adapting the Long Night, probably gave them his notes for it, was probably there to help guide the pilot script a bit. It seems to be the one he is most involved in, BUT last I heard he's neck deep in writing book 6 in his remote cabin.

I doubt this will be as good as as any of those first seasons of game of thrones. Still hoping for the best.

I don't know about this. But while we're on the subject of Naomi Watts, she was amazing in Twin Peaks: The Return. As was everybody. So, go watch it. And the whole show. And Fire Walk With Me. Ok, random commercial over.

Look more like Dornish colors than Lannister and Dorne and House Martell should be around for that time.
