AGENT CARTER: Full Synopsis & Cast List Revealed

AGENT CARTER: Full Synopsis & Cast List Revealed

We've already gotten a vague outline for the upcoming ABC series, but now Marvel has released a full synopsis which provides a lot more details, including how and why Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) gets involved in Peggy's (Hayley Atwell) life again.

This new Agent Carter synopsis gives us a much better idea of what to expect when Hayley Atwell returns as the titular Marvel heroine next year. Not only are we given the overall plot outline ( for the first series arc at any rate), but it seems we're in for something of a double act, with Howard Stark's faithful butler Jarvis (James D'Arcy) teaming up with Peggy to help her track down those responsible for framing Stark and clear his name. We've also been getting quite a bit of casting news coming in for the show over the past couple of months, and Marvel confirm those names/characters for us too.

ABC presents its second action packed series from the creative minds at Marvel in “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” inspired by the feature films Marvel’s "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Marvel’s "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," along with the short "Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."

Years before Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team swore to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive, there was Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell, Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger," Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), who pledged the same oath but lived in a different time when women weren’t recognized as being as smart or as tough as their male counterparts.

But no one should ever underestimate Peggy.

It's 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy finds herself stuck doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field; putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers – aka Captain America.

When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger”) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy - the only person he can trust - to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy, “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World”), to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for releasing these weapons of mass destruction. But Jarvis, who is a creature of habit and sticks to a rigid daily routine, is going to have to make some major life changes if he’s going to be able to keep up with Peggy.

If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison – or worse. And as she delves deeper into her investigation, she may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims.

Sounds like an intriguing premise. Agent Carter will be with us in 2015, and stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, James D'Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill,” “A Cinderella Story”) as Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj (“Dollhouse”) as Agent Daniel Sousa, Shea Whigham (“American Hustle,” “The Wolf of Wall Street”) as Chief Roger Dooley, Lyndsy Fonseca ("Kick-Ass," "Nikita") as Angie Martinelli and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark.

LOVED the One-Shot, and if the series is even close to that quality, then I can't wait to watch this. This has the potential to be really great.

Shield Agents of Peggy Carter of Shield is going to BLOW!!!! Agents of Shield is a shit show that scrapes by on brand recognition alone. How the hell are they going to get this show going?

I have no interest in a 1950's shield. I don't care about the Marvel Universe before Thor, Cap, Iron Man, Hank Pym, ect were on the avengers. I don't want to know how Howard Stark and Peggy are actually responsible for the Avengers or whatever other bullshit they are going to make up that will shit all over the 616.

Please Disney/Marvel, start making tv shows from existing properties/titles/characters. Quite making up dumb shit. There is so much material in Marvel worthy of a tv show. Start [frick]ing looking. It won't take you that long to find something way better than this SHIT!

This will be cancelled after one season, if it even makes it that far... Agents of Shield won't make it past a third season either. I hope they learn some lessons from these failures and don't cuss up Daredevil, Cage and Jessica Jones...

I'm curious...I don't remember the one-shot very well. I remember her getting the call to go work for SHIELD from Howard...

But...in Iron Man, SHIELD wasn't called SHIELD. They were called the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. The running joke was them trying to find an acronym.

Did they call it SHIELD in the one-shot? Will they call it SHIELD in the series?

I'm really looking forward to this show! Haley Atwell kicks major ass as Peggy Carter.

The show will explore the history of the MCU pre-S.H.I.E.L.D. We will also learn more about the history of HYDRA.

Oh look, RobertLiefeld is going on one of his angry rants again...

Kudos to him for not bringing up Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne.

That's probably a first.

Man I really wanted to see Bettany as Jarvis.

I bet they couldn't make it happen schedule and money wise. What a shame.

So Peggy gets the REAL Jarvis and Tony Stark and the Avengers get the computer simulation. That makes two things I find terribly wrong with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first one was deleting Hank and Jan from the original Avengers line-up. That one had a domino effect that messed up Ultron's origin and all of the mother/father issues that make up the core of that villainous character.
