ANGEL's J. August Richards Lands Secret Role In ABC's S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot

Even though writer-director Joss Whedon finished filming Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot for ABC back in February, we now have confirmation of another addition to the cast, and this one has worked with The Avengers helmer in the past. According to TV Line, Whedon has cast J. August Richards (who was in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer spin-off Angel, which was also created by Whedon) in what's called a "super top-secret role." The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot also stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge Iain De Caestecker and Brett Dalton. It hasn't been confirmed whether or not the pilot will go to series, but it is expected to air on ABC sometime this fall. Who do you think Richards is playing?

Hmmmm....MAYBE a younger Nick Fury (a flash-back sequence, perhaps)? Or perhaps another hero (a street-leveled hero, or an A-list hero). We shall soon see. But all in all, I'm just excited for this. Here's to hoping that this turns into a series.

he'll either be shield agent or a villian, he wont be a big character like cage or panther

@Nomis - Actually, that ain't that far of a stretch. I wouldn't mind seeing Nick Fury's son coming on and teaming up alongside Coulson. That'd be pretty badass, really.

I'm thinking Deathlok or Bill Foster. Or maybe a villain....Tombstone?
OR Ryder from the Skrull Kill Crew but in the MCU they will be the Chitari Kill Crew. Some of them didn't drop dead at the end of the Avengers.

we would not only get a black man who is playing white character from the comics, but also the first black man who is playing white woman character from the comics.

Young Nick Fury in flashback, Nick Fury Jr, Scorpio (Fury's brother and the Zodiac could be one of the antagonist in the series), Luke Cage, or Black Panther. Those are the only 5 roles I know of that are "Top Secret" worthy, just another SHIELD agent isn't something that should be top secret. Any other villains he might be playing, I have no idea.
kirynthemighty
kirynthemighty - 4/5/2013, 2:29 PM
Ok guys you realize that in the comics the Nick Fury Jr. is really supposed to be samuel l jackson at this point. The reason why they did it to make it cannon with the movie and ultimates. The original Nick Fury is a white guy. :D They did the whole Nick Fury Jr. thing to phase out the white Nick Fury. I am HOPING that he'll play Cloak, Luke (if he bulks up), Fury flashback (hoping against this), or ...got nothing else.

Still pretty damned pumped. Gunn is the freakin man! Good to see him back with Joss.
