THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Will Bring Back "Characters From The Earliest Marvel Movies"

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier writer Derek Kolstad (John Wick) has shared some intriguing new intel about the Disney+ TV series, promising that the MCU's sidekicks will get the attention they deserve!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been pushed to an unknown date in 2021 in response to COVID, but writer Derek Kolstad, who is perhaps best known for John Wick, has shared an update on the Disney+ series. Unable to reveal too much about the project, he did promise fans that they can look forward to the return of some familiar faces from the MCU's past.

"What I will say is that there are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back," Kolstad teased. "We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure. It’s f***ing awesome." Zemo and Batroc aren't exactly the MCU's "earliest" characters, so this could be a sign Phase 1 heroes and villains will have a part to play.

With rumors indicating that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will explore the effects of the Super Soldier Serum, Abomination could be someone who Sam and Bucky cross paths with.

Talking to Script Apart, Kolstad would later add, "Here’s what I’ll say: growing up, everyone would give someone like Robin shit. But Robin’s pretty badass, and became pretty badass in the comics. [We're] taking secondary characters and putting them in the primary roles, and [as a result] they’re cooler. They’re more interesting. There’s more humanity, more longing, more suffering, and coming to grips with who and what they are."

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has all the makings of something seriously special, but it's probably going to be a while before more is revealed by Marvel Studios Television as shooting is still happening in the Czech Republic.

Hmmm, curious.

I'm guessing some Incredible Hulk characters mostly.

that sounds like Abomination, because Ross has been back for a while now. it could also mean maybe Justin Hammer (AKA IM2'S low-key MVP).

@KWilly - ngl, I totally forgot about this guy. it's really weird going back to early MCU and catch some plot points they set up but never followed through or drop almost immediately.

This show does look like the perfect opportunity to bring back Hammer, Abomination and Leader. Hopefully this shows sees Ross setting up the Thunderbolts, including Yelena and Ghost (and Zemo possibly infiltrating them like the Master of Evil comics)

This is definitely exciting to hear, but I am slightly concerned that this might not be the best way for these kinds of characters to return- the one they need- given the (I’m guessing) smaller audience.

@WeaponXCII - That's a good point. But we've yet to see how many new subscribers these Marvel shows will bring. Granted, not as much as those who go to the MCU films (a smaller audience, like you stated), but I'm guessing it will be a much larger audience on Disney+ than they currently have.

@LSHF - I hope it will be a much larger audience, too. The way these shows are shaping up (with production values right up there with the movies), they deserve it.

@WeaponXCII - I hope so, too. And I agree. They do deserve it. If others have doubts, hopefully they can at least try it for one month, then decide.
