While Jessica Jones is a character with a lot of fans thanks to Brian Michael Bendis' Alias series, no one really expected all that much from the show when it debuted on Netflix. However, it effortlessly exceeded expectations and stands out as one of the best Marvel shows on the online streaming service. Season two debuts next month and we now have a trailer but what exactly does that tell us?

For a first look, a surprisingly significant amount as we're treated to hints about Jessica's origin story, a very unexpected big bad, and much more about what's to come when the private eye returns.

We've taken an in-depth look at the footage to single out all the huge reveals and best moments, so all you need to do is click on either one of the buttons below to check that out. Then, be sure to head to the comments section to let us know what you guys thought of our first sneak peek at Jessica Jones

"Something Else" = Typhoid Mary?

Throughout the trailer, it's made clear that Jessica wasn't the only person test subject and that the other person to have emerged from the programme is now embarking on some sort of murderous rampage throughout New York City. Rumours have been swirling that Typhoid Mary will be the big bad of Jessica Jones season two and it makes perfect sense based on what we're hearing here.

Purple Man Tease

The first official image from season two of the series featured the return of David Tennant's Kilgrave, so it should come as no surprise that this teaser hints at him coming back to haunt Jessica. However, look at those hands and they definitely seem to belong to a woman; could it be that Typhoid Mary was also linked to Purple Man? It's hard to say but is entirely possible if you think about.

Jessica's Origin Story

The first season of Jessica Jones hinted that there was more to her powers than met the eye and it's now clear that the focus of season two will be her exploring where her abilities came from and who was responsible for the experiments which were performed on her as a youngster. How that will tie into the other heroes in this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe obviously remains to be seen.

Yes, These Shows Still Take Place In The MCU

As the years have passed, it's become clear that the world of The Defenders is pretty much always going to remain separate from that of The Avengers. On the plus side, the fact that a kid mentions Captain America at least confirms these characters definitely exist in the same world.

A Super Vigilante

Following the events of The Defenders, Jessica clearly has a reputation as a hero and "super vigilante." Then again, even before that team-up, she was known for stopping The Purple Man in his tracks and it's going to be very interesting seeing what sort of an impact that has on Alias Investigations.

Hellcat

Trish talks here about serving as Jessica's sidekick and there are some great shots of her kicking ass throughout the trailer. Could it be that we're finally going to see her suit up as Hellcat? I wouldn't bank on it but Marvel could easily take another step toward that here and fans would love it.

A New Rival

We see here that Jessica has a new rival but whether or not he's a character from the comic books remains to be seen. However, a later shot in the trailer indicates that he could, in fact, be a love interest too but that shot goes by far too quickly to say whether or not it's actually him and Jessica. Regardless, he clearly wants to take over Alias Investigations and that means they're going to clash.

Malcolm On The Run

What is Malcolm running from? I'm not sure but this is an interesting shot and the fact he pops up frequently throughout the trailer is a good indication that we're going to see him a lot this season.

Jessica Died

Well, this is a pretty damn big reveal for a trailer! It turns out that Jessica didn't survive the accident which killed her parents and she died as well. The process used to bring her back to life is what inadvertently gave her powers but that doesn't explain what this group was up to. We know they're tied to Nuke somehow so perhaps they wanted a way to bring back fallen soldiers?

Jessica's Framed For Someone Else's Crimes

We've known for a while that Jessica is going to end up behind bars at some point in season two but this trailer makes it clear that she's framed for the crimes of whoever her villainous counterpart is!

This season looks like what it needs to be.....a detective show, with a little bit super. So if Jessica is going after a super serial killer that's tied to her origin, which is also tied to her trauma, making is thematically consistent, this could be a really good season. Season 1 had a lot of issues for me, so I hope that the show delivers on what this trailer promised me.
