Gael García Bernal is set to take on the lead role in the Werewolf by Night Halloween special that's rumoured to be coming to Disney+ this October. Now, the project may have landed a director.
We first heard rumblings about critically acclaimed Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman composer Michael Giacchino stepping behind the camera to helm the special last December. That's been corroborated by The Cosmic Circus today, and we're certainly intrigued by what the Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy award winner will bring to the table as Werewolf by Night's director.
We might not have too long to wait before finding out, as the site goes on to reveal that filming is currently scheduled to begin at the end of March. Cameras are only expected to roll for a few weeks, so we're obviously not anticipating this unexpected addition to Phase 4 being anywhere close to feature-length.
There's a very strong chance we'll be introduced to the Werewolf by Night character in Moon Knight. Marc Spector made his debut in the pages of that character's title for a battle many fans would love to see recreated on screen; from there, Jack Russell can obviously take centre stage in his own standalone special that, knowing Marvel Studios, will likely set the stage for future stories.
As for Giacchino, going from scoring some of the world's biggest movies to taking the helm of his own Marvel Studios special is quite the career move. Given the sort of filmmakers he's collaborated with in the past, though, we have no doubt he's going to deliver something amazing with this project.
Moon Knight is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 30.
