We recently learned that Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 21, and we now have a new look at Marvel Studios' "game-changing espionage thriller" courtesy of a plethora of official promo stills (via Vanity Fair).

The images spotlight the show's main players, including Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman).

We also have confirmation that Emilia Clarke is indeed playing Talos' daughter G’iah, while Kingsley Ben-Adir is on villain duty as Gravik, a “resistance leader who has radicalized a group of Skrull extremists to seize the resources” they need in order to survive—“first quietly, by disguising themselves, then by force, if needed.”

There seems to be a tighter lid being kept on Olivia Colman's character, but Jackson says her "shadowy MI6 operative" is "somebody that you've never seen her play before. She's coldblooded and just relishes being that person.”

The legendary actor also explained why the Skrulls felt the need to take such drastic measures since the events of Captain Marvel.

“They kept their word. They worked for him, but he hasn't done what he said he was going to do. They want a home. They want to live. They want to live in their skin. They don't want to live in ours.”

Check out the stills below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer, which shouldn't be too far away.

Secret Invasion "follows Nick Fury as he uncovers a conspiracy to install double-agents into positions of power around the world: shapeshifting green-skinned extra-terrestrials known as Skrulls, who can perfectly simulate any human being at will."

There's a moment in CAPTAIN MARVEL when Talos daughter sees a guy get shot and it lingers on her face for a bit as she's being pulled to safety. Was always curious how they were going to follow up on that and glad to see it seems to be a major story piece here

@OmegaDaGrodd - thank you. Was hoping that moment was going to end up being the first hint that there are evil skrulls in the future.

Has the potential to be the best MCU show, so it’ll obviously be shit. Wild they’ve reduced this storyline to a tv series

@Cap1 - I mean, it really depends what's done with the time... some things are better as a series for the time they give to explore things and allow more to happen, some work best condensed into movies
Cap1
Cap1 - 3/31/2023, 9:11 AM
@Slotherin - sure that’s true, gives it time to breathe, but a story like this could easily be the next big event throughline, built up over multiple movies akin to Thanos/Kang then come to blows in an Avengers movie

@Cap1 - I mean, Loki and WandaVision were fantastic. The way I see it, D+ is due for another Marvel show that's a banger. I really think this could be it. They can't all be bad, right? Riiiiiiiight?

And if I'm being honest, Falcon and Winter Soldier didn't suck, and neither did What If. They were just okay. But I certainly don't regret watching them.

I thought She-Hulk and Moon Knight were awful. And Hawkeye felt like it really didn't need to exist at all.

@CorndogBurglar - agree with virtually all your takes there, though WandaVision fell off toward the end, Loki is clear atm. I’d like to say with that cast how could it go wrong, but they figured out how to waste both Isaac and Hawke, so i’d put nothing past Marvel. Begging on this being as good as it looks

This is the epic multi movie MCU palooza they should have done as opposed to the "Kaang" dynasty. And they chop it down to a 6 episode TV show. Boo!

At least I can fantasize about yummy Ms. Clark in my lap feeding me grapes.

@DocSpock - I agree! They could have done some cool things with this if they had it play out for a couple phases. But the problem is the Avengers don't exist anymore. So it would be playing out with all the characters we have right now, and none of them even really know each other yet. So the entire theme of "Who do you trust?" kind of get lost when all the main heroes don't have some kind of history together.

@CorndogBurglar -

That is a very good point. Moving on, I wonder how they turn all of these different heroes into a solid cohesive team like they had with the first 6 MCU Avengers who made this whole universe such a smash.

That will be a tall order that they better get right.

@DocSpock - Secret Invasion definitely could've worked really well as saga finale as well. Same with Annihiliation, which I think will be turned into a solo project as well (either as a show, or maybe a Captain Marvel sequel).

But since we're not getting that, it's gonna be interesting indeed how they bring the new team together. Hope they just focus on a selected few characters.

@Gmoney84 - fans aren't supposed to be marks. It's not shut up and consume. We get to speak up when we don't like something.

And facts are facts, Marvel today is not what it was, and people are unhappy with the new product.

Not every band is as big as the Beatles. You can slap as many Marvel heroes and celebrities together... you won't recapture the magic of the original era Avengers.

WWF took decades to replace Hulkamania with the Attitude Era. The fact may be that THE MCU won't be as good ever again.
