SECRET INVASION Director Reveals If Nick Fury Knows That [SPOILER] Is A Skrull

The final scene of today's second episode of Secret Invasion seems to have led to some confusion, but director Alim Selim has now cleared things up. Be warned of major spoilers ahead...

The second episode of Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+, and the plot is most definitely beginning to thicken as Gravik and his Skrull infiltrators enact their plan for world domination.

If you haven't watched "Promises" yet, major spoilers follow.

In the closing moments of the episode, we learn that Nick Fury is married... to a Skrull! We see the shape-shifter in question transform into her human form just as Fury walks through the door, before putting on his wedding ring and sharing a passionate embrace with his wife, Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard).

Because of the way the scene was edited, some viewers seem to be under the impression that Nick is unaware that his better half is a Skrull, but director Ali Selim has now cleared things up during an interview with Deadline.

"In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn’t know. We ultimately edited it in a way that made people feel like, 'I wonder if he knows or not.'

The ending could be viewed as somewhat ambiguous... if we didn't already know that Fury's wife is the same woman who brought a young Gravik to him in the flashback at the beginning of the episode! There's a chance he wouldn't recognize her human form, but it seems highly unlikely.

At any rate, it sounds like Priscilla is going to have an important part to play in the rest of the season.

"I think his wife is a support and a complication, and I think you will learn interesting things about their relationship…going forward,” Selim added. “But ultimately, that is the personal issue that he needs to confront to make this make sense to him.”

What did you make of the conclusion of episode 2 of Secret Invasion? Drop us a comment down below.

"In Marvel Studios’ new series Secret Invasion, set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."

The series stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Ali Selim directs and executive-produces, along with fellow executive producers Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Samuel L. This show is solid. Nothing amazing or anything, but I'm invested. That conversation with Rhodey and Fury at the restaurant tho??

@KWilly - yeah great writing. We are getting more of rhodey here than in any of his previous experiences

So what do you think ? Rhodey has always been a staunch military man and perhaps he's even more so after all this time. But he was harsh to Fury. Could he be a skrull? Was that in character for Rhodey?

@Vigor -
I'm fairly sure, when Secret Invasion is all wrapped up, you'll have a lot of human characters acting out of character simply because they are being written by people who did not watch the other films/shows or read the comics out of a misguided sense of superiority, viewing the media that they are adapting as beneath them.

What you are seeing, and at the moment trying to justify away as the characters being Skrulls, is just inconsistent character writing such as Nick Fury forgetting he made a promise to house the Skrulls on Earth in Captain Marvel set in 1995.

There's bound to be several characters who are not Skrulls and yet still have these inconsistent character aspects - its one of the reasons why shows with shape shifting characters often fall apart on a re-watch when you realize that this character was human the entire time and simply acting weird for fake suspicion or simply because they did not know how to write them.

@Scarilian - yeah I don't know. I guess we will see right?
To me the one character who acted out of character was Sharon Carter in TFAWS.
I was convinced without a shred of doubt, that she was a skrull. But that's because I knew secret invasion was coming out. If I had no knowledge of secret invasion, I would have just called it mis-characterization.

I know TheDoctor would disagree with me about her. But he's not here anymore so, hus opinion doesn't matter 😋

@Vigor - when I first watched it I though “rhodey a skrull for sure” which could still be true, but I landed on rhodey knowing his security was a skrull and him being harsh to fury was him throwing the skrulls off. If they don’t feel rhodey is an ally then they don’t need to worry about him

@MyCoolYoung - interesting theory

Yeah, I'd hope Sharon Carter was a Skrull... maybe she is... but I get the vibe that Secret Invasion and the Skrull plotline is going to be introduced and wrapped up solely in Secret Invasion and I think they are saving Sharon for Armor Wars.

So much of Phase 4 could have been solved if some of the returning characters were later revealed as Skrulls. Would have helped explain the inconsistent character development.

I still think it was a missed opportunity to not have Maria Hill be a Skrull.

@Vigor - he hasn’t had a character so you could argue at this point almost Anything would he in character for him.

@Vigor - Bah! Of course his opinion matters; we just won’t get to see it. 😂
For the record, I agree with you about Sharon, though.

@Scarilian - Uh pretty sure based on the flashback at the beginning of THIS episode we are going to get more of Nick Fury and the Skrulls at the start of 3-6 to establish more of that relationship and see more of what happened but I don't know how "out of character" it would even be for Fury since it's not like even this show said he forgot the promise but rather prioritized other stuff over it.

@DianaGohan -
It was the solution to Captain Marvel that he was going to house them. To have him not do so weakens that film and it weakens this storyline because it's not believable that he'd avoid doing something that important - especially when he was on vacation in Far From Home and I guess just doing random things since AoU because we don't really see him?

Your telling me Nick Fury somehow ended up knowingly marrying a Skrull and yet he did not end up providing them a home which he promised to do in 1995 because he forgot?
Vigor
Vigor - 6/28/2023, 10:21 PM
@Scarilian - nick fury failed at what he promised to do. They're making that pretty clear. What makes you think he "forgot"?

@Vigor - I just don’t give a shit about this show.
Is it possible people may just disagree about the things they like? Why is it that if people disagree they must have an agenda.
I’m going to keep watching. I hope something hooks me. I just couldn’t care less about the Skrulls.

So Cap Marvel couldnt find the skrulls another planet with all the planets presented in the three of the Guardians movies in last 20 years and we gonna just blame it all solely on the black man?

She was Talos friend too wasnt she? And in Endgame she says theres problems throughout the whole galaxy thats why she cant help her home planet, not a good looking having the feminist superhero makin an excuse
Taonrey
Taonrey - 6/28/2023, 11:31 PM
@Matchesz - if there one hero that should be in this show it’s her, I don’t even understand how the skrulls can think a dude who’s never been in deep space could find them a home. This shoudl all be put on Captain Marvel who is always traveling the galaxy.
