In The Incredible Hulk, Emil Blonsky took a version of the Super Soldier serum that transformed him into Abomination. After trying to kill the Jade Giant, the villain was imprisoned and we didn't see him again until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Today's episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law establishes that Blonsky has reformed and now hopes to be freed. Jennifer Walters (well, She-Hulk) is tasked with fighting his case, and calls Bruce Banner to check if he's okay with her representing his old enemy. Smart Hulk reveals that he received a letter from Abomination a number of years ago and says they've put their differences aside.
He also points out that he's "literally" a different guy now after their clash in 2008, a cheeky nod to the fact that it was Edward Norton who played Banner in that movie before Mark Ruffalo replaced him in The Avengers. Jen even laughs at this, quickly breaking the fourth wall to look at the audience.
As for The Hulk, it appears Marvel Studios is indeed setting the stage for a huge new storyline.
It's revealed that he's now in space aboard a ship that appears to be heading back to Sakaar. We don't find out why, but common sense suggests he's returning to the planet to meet his son Skaar. Whether we're getting a true Planet Hulk movie or World War Hulk remains to be seen, but it's clear something significant is being set up for the Green Goliath.
Talking to The Direct, Head Writer Jessica Gao says, "God knows what Hulk got up to in the years he was [on Sakaar], so he’s gotta go back and handle some off-world things that happened during that time."
Back on Earth, news breaks that Abomination has escaped when footage of him fighting Wong in Shang-Chi's fight club leaks, putting Jen in quite the predicament.
