RED SONJA Star Brigitte Neilsen Almost Played SHE-HULK In The '90s - Check Out Some Test Shots

Did you know Red Sonja and Rocky 4 star Brigitte Neilsen was set to play She-Hulk in a movie directed by Larry Cohen? Some test-shot of the actress suited-up as Jennifer Walters have now resurfaced...

She-Hulk will soon make her MCU debut in the upcoming Disney+ series, but the character very nearly made it to the big screen back in the early '90s with Red Sonja star Brigitte Neilsen in the lead role.

It's Alive director Larry Cohen was hired to helm the project, and while we're not sure exactly how close it came to entering production, Neilsen did suit-up as the Savage She-Hulk for series of test-shots.

As you can see, this was a very scaled back take on Bruce Banner's cousin. Instead of the character's signature jade skin, Neilsen is sporting a shiny green outfit and some lipstick! She actually looks more like Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy from Batman and Robin than She-Hulk.

Nobody seems to be certain why this She-Hulk movie was ultimately canned, but looking at the photos above, we have a fair idea.

We're still waiting to hear who will play Jennifer Walkers in the Disney+ series, but a recent rumor claimed that Marvel was keen to cast an "Alison Brie type" in the role. Brooklyn 99's Stephanie Bearitz and Schitt's Creek actress Emily Hampshire have also thrown their hats in the ring.

I saw this a few months back somewhere, I thought it was on here but I guess not, Mark always does a bang up job reporting and I know he wouldn’t reuse and article, it must have been on zergnet or something but I just remember thinking “thank god this didn’t happen”

I wish we had it. Would make a great drunken watch party along with Hasselhoff as Nick Fury, Halle Berry as Catwoman, etc.

Would have fit nicely in a crossover with Lou Ferrigno's (hoped I spelled his last name right) Hulk version.

What's with all the ancient comic book movie news, these days?

This actually pre-dates the internet. I remember seeing this photo in all the trades at the time. I think it was even in some of the comics.

Keeping things current, I can only hope that in looking for an alison brie-type, they mean personality, not physique. Shulky needs to be big.

I mean it's like looking for a Keanu-Reeves-type for Conan the Barbarian. Body aside that's good casting.
