Though nothing has been confirmed, the signs are pointing to Marvel Studios reintroducing at least some of the characters from the now cancelled Netflix Marvel shows, and keeping the original actors on to play them.
Charlie Cox is expected to return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil for Spider-Man 3 (as well as the Disney+ She-Hulk series), and there's been talk of Krysten Ritter stepping back into the role of Jessica Jones. Now, a new rumor is claiming that Jon Bernthal is also set to arm-up once again as The Punisher.
According to Giant Freakin' Robot (who have had scoops pan out in the past), there are plans in place for a Punisher "reboot" with Bernthal on board. Whether that would be on the big or small screen is not clear.
Bernthal has previously hinted that we may not have seen the last of his ultra-violent vigilante, and to say his interpretation of Frank Castle was popular with fans would be an understatement. Such a brutal character wouldn't necessarily seem like a good fit for the family-friendly MCU - especially not as a Disney+ series - but we know that Deadpool 3 will be R-rated, so the studio is clearly planning to expand into uncharted waters at some point in the near future.
What do you guys make of this rumor? Do you think we'll see Bernthal back in the saddle as The Punisher?
