UPDATE: THE PUNISHER Special Presentation's Title Harkens Back To The Infinity Saga

An upcoming graphic novel has revealed the title for The Punisher Special Presentation coming to Disney+ this summer, and it harkens back to Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga.

UPDATE: It's now been confirmed that the Penguin Random House listing was incorrect, and that the show's title is not Punisher One-Shot Special. Marvel Studios has yet to announce the official title, so we'll be sure to let you know when that changes.

Jon Bernthal made his "official" MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again last year, and the future looks bright for Frank Castle. The actor will reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and his own Disney+ Special Presentation this summer, and we're not discounting a Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 cameo.

Understandably eager to capitalise on the excitement, Marvel Comics will release a new Premier Collection edition of Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank next month. The book will include an exclusive foreword by Frank Castle actor Jon Bernthal and a new introduction by author Garth Ennis.

The official product listing has also revealed the Special Presentation's official title. "Jon Bernthal returns as the Punisher in the upcoming Punisher One-Shot Special on Disney+," reads the solicitation text. "Frank Castle is a one-man army locked, loaded and ready to take down anyone in his way."

So, The Punisher One-Shot Special, it is. As you'll no doubt recall, Marvel One-Shots were originally released from 2011 to 2014 as special features bundled with the Blu-ray and Digital releases of MCU movies.

The first One-Shots were released in 2011, and were titled The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's HammerItem 47 followed in 2012, with Agent Carter in 2013 and All Hail the King in 2014.

The original One-Shots ranged from 3 to 15 minutes, though we don't necessarily think that means The Punisher One-Shot Special will be that brief. If anything, it's likely going to be between 45 minutes and an hour, similar to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Werewolf by Night.

"I think [it] will be as high-octane Punisher as you've ever seen," Bernthal previously teased. "I think what was really important to me and to Destin and to Tom is that we believed that The Punisher could walk off of the Spider-Man set and could walk onto the special set, and I do believe that we achieved that."

The Punisher One-Shot Special is eyeing a Summer 2026 premiere on Disney+.

The Punisher makes his return by eliminating the ruthless Ma Gnucci’s crime family — pursued by the NYPD’s two-detective Punisher Task Force, crazed contract killer the Russian and super hero Daredevil…and emulated by three copycat killers who want to join forces with him. The over-the-top action builds toward a showdown in the apartment building Frank shares with his colorful fellow residents.

Castle must survive to finish his vendetta, making sure his neighbors aren’t caught in the crossfire while evil is punished. With this series, writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon — together with inker Jimmy Palmiotti and iconic cover artist Tim Bradstreet — gave the Punisher a redefining fresh start that once more made him a force to be reckoned with!

Bernthal has zero range as an actor. The best live action punisher content we've gotten is the dirty laundry short

@SteviesRightFoo - I liked Ray Stevenson as Frank.

@SteviesRightFoo - The prison fight scene in DD is still his best work so far, but Dirty Laundry was a great short. I’m interested to see how he’s portrayed when he’s the main character and not a supporting character. We’ll see, I think that will set expectations moving forward.

@SteviesRightFoo - He’s gotta stop the constant screaming. Marvel also made his origin way more convoluted than it should be.

Berenthal really nailed it as The Punisher. Love jis take on the character & the grit he brings to the MCU.

Bernthal is a great Punisher. But he is at risk of always being the Punisher because he is the same character in everything he does.

@AgentofSH1ELD - Of the four actors who have played him in live action, and watched them all, he is for me by far the best in the role even if I do rank at least one of the films narratively above both his seasons and episodes within them (regardless how source accurate anyone considers it to be). I can see him being typecast however even if I can't with certainty say if he has poor acting range or not, seen a lot of things he is listed as being in a didn't recall him from which NORMALY either means he was convincing in vary differing roles such that I didn't recognize him (in a Michael Sheen kinda way who I rarely recognized outside of Doolittle and Good Omens but was great in other shows/films) or very forgettable but as I can't recall can't determine which.

'ONE SHOT' works on many levels. I love it.

If that’s the official title then I dig it…

It not only harkens back to the comics with self contained standalone stories being titled “One Shots” but given it’s the Punisher then calling it that works on that level aswell imo.

I expect the length of the special to be about 40-50 mins so pretty much akin to a usual episode of television…

Anyway , looking forward to it!!.

Am I the only one who doesn't love Berenthal as the Punisher. I personally like my Punisher as cool, calm, and collected over unhinged maniac. I would like to see A Thomas Jane cameo at some point in Secret Wars.

@LeBronStan - you’re not the only one who feels that way, I think he should have been Logan instead. Logans mot supposed to be pretty and Bernthal got a boxers face and appears shorter because of his big head which is ideal for Wolverine.

So many cool titles from the old comics days they could use for specials: Marvel Age, Marvel Fanfare, Marvel Two-in-One.

Interested in seeing him return and eventually share the screen with Spider-Man and anyone else that the Damage Control organization is after. Seeing him in a different sandbox than his own will make his more interesting.

Even though this article doesn’t actually contain any information, I hate everything it says because I’m a fan on the Internet, and everything sucks.

"Jon Bernthal made his "official" MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again last year"

No, we've been down this road before. He made his "official" MCU debut in season 2 of Daredevil on Netflix.

"Jon Bernthal returns as the Punisher in the upcoming Punisher One-Shot Special on Disney+,"

This doesn't really read like the title. It could very well be, but it could also just as likely be a description announcing that there's a one-shot Punisher special coming out. I definitely wouldn't take this as "confirmation" as the official title based on the information you've given in this article.
