SCARLET WITCH Movie Possibly Sidelined At Marvel Studios But There Are Still Big Plans For Wanda Maximoff

Despite rumors of a Scarlet Witch movie being in the works at Marvel Studios, a new rumour suggests that's been sidelined. There are, however, still big plans in place for Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff.

WandaVision put the spotlight on Wanda Maximoff's transformation into the Scarlet Witch, though fans were definitely shocked (and perhaps disappointed) to see her become a full-blown villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Avenger managed to somewhat redeem herself once all was said and done, but her fate remains a mystery.

While a flash of red light seemed to suggest she had escaped being crushed beneath the Darkhold Castle on Mount Wundagore, Marvel Studios' future plans for Wanda are unclear.

There have been rumblings about a solo movie, of course, but The DisInsider is reporting that may no longer be the case. Apparently, there aren't any current plans for a big screen spin-off at this time, so unless Marvel Studios is mulling over a Scarlet Witch Special Presentation, Wanda's story looks set to continue elsewhere.

While the site is unsure whether the character will be part of Disney+'s Vision Quest (it sounds likely she will), they claim we'll see her again in at least one episode of Agatha: Coven of Chaos in a minor but pivotal role.

Beyond that, we're sure you'll be glad to know that the Scarlet Witch is set to return in both Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given Wanda's own experience with the Multiverse and her immense power level, we're sure she'll be crucial when Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble to fight Kang the Conqueror.

This is just a rumour for now, but there's a lot here that makes sense. While many fans were excited about a Scarlet Witch movie, if those plans have changed, it might not be the worst thing in the world. After all, the current slate is busy enough as it is and it wouldn't hurt Marvel Studios to slow down a little in the next Saga.

What do you hope to see from the Scarlet Witch in the MCU moving forward?

It will be a lot of work to redeem her, even with the Darkhold talk.

@Fogs - eh, all you need is someone to come in saying "they'll never know what you sacrificed for them", then all will be forgiven.

@Fogs - Star Wars redeemed a 2 time child killing space nazi, I don’t think redeeming Wanda will be that hard.

@Fogs - If Geoff Johns can do it for Hal Jordan they can do it for Wanda, just say she was possessed by a fear bug.

@Taonrey - Thanks to the prequels its kind of hard to view him as redeemed in my eyes. Sure he basically ensured a safer future for the galaxy but I have no doubt had he survived the last movie he would've been executed for being a war criminal and murderer.

@Taonrey - Yeah, totally. Vader was a genocidal crazy mofo. But to the GA Wanda was presented murdering specific people and even heroes in a pretty graphic manner. That's tough.

@soberchimera - The Darkhold argument is there and they're going for it, but IMO they should've done that in MoM in a more visual form, like her eyes/aura changing color, that kind of stuff they usually do in movies and having it very clear. It's commonplace but effective.

I'm not saying the redemption can't be done, mind you guys. I just said they'll need to sweat over it so it isn't too cheap (as it was felt in Wandavision).

@Fogs - they redeemed Loki and Bucky who did considerably worse.

It’s actually not that hard to redeem someone being mind controlled by a demon book lol.

@MrDandy - That's the point you're not getting... I know the characters did worse. But they shown Wanda in a much violent and highlighted manner. It was basically a horror slasher villain. Got it?

@Fogs - They should have shown Chthon, they had the perfect opportunity in the Xavier scene, to reveal Chthon's manipulations.

Chthon, a multiversal being, states he has been forging Wanda since birth,

You need a solo movie to cover Chthon's scheming and his war with Wanda.

Ideally, you do a solo movie with Wanda and Agatha fighting Chthon and that concluding her story.

Wanda isn't going to have much of a role in Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars.

@Fogs - One word: CHTHON.

He named her Scarlet Witch, he invented Chaos Magic.

"The Scarlet Witch is not born, she is forged" = To forge is to smash repeatedly until something becomes the way you want it.

The tragedies in Wanda's life are orchestrated by Chthon. That is why the other Wanda's are living relatively normal lives, they are the backup puppets, whereas MCU Wanda is Chthon's chosen.

@MrDandy - You have to show the author of the book, the guy who named her Scarlet Witch, gave her her powers, and states in his book that he is "forging" her. Wong literally states Chthon to be the author of the Darkhold, Chthon's head is depicted directly above Wanda's statue.
Being Chthon's avatar is what enabled Wanda to destroy the Darkhold, chaos magic is Chthon's magic.

@TheFireForce - eh he did some evil shit in the og trilogy, like I said he was a space nazi. U can pretty much redeem anyone in fiction except for dog killers and pedos.
Relugus
Relugus - 12/2/2022, 6:15 PM
@Fogs - Chthon wrote the Darkhold and literally wrote "the Scarlet Witch is forged, not born".

He pretty much says, "I made her."

Wanda "needs no coven"; she was a maiden, a mother, and a widow (crone). She has been through all three phases of womanhood and as such needs no other witches.

The degree of tragedy in Wanda's life is clearly orchestrated by Chthon, and that is the only meaningful story they can really tell now. They have cut off other avenues for Wanda by letting Raimi so ineptly handle her.

I get the impression though that they have no idea what to do with Wanda. TBQH if I were Olsen I would only sign a new contract if a solo movie is on it, otherwise she is clearly going to get wasted in 10 minute bit parts as a plot device while missing out on great roles in other movies that she wants to do.

@Relugus - hey but maybe we're getting her story moving forward in Agatha's series.

There's an opportunity to fix her via The High Evolutionary. He can see a disruption in her, correct it, and give her some sense of redemption.

I thought the last Dr Strange movie was a better Scarlet Witch movie.

Anyone who is a true comic book reader would know there are various ways to redeem her, some more believable than others. But the question is how should it be done, through another series, an actual movie, or a "Special"? As well as the last two "Specials" have turned out, I tend to lean that way at this point in time.
