It seems Tim Kring just can't quit the Heroes franchise as the celebrated television creator is currently shopping a third iteration of the series to networks and streamers, according to Deadline.
NBC, the original home of Heroes is also said to be among the potential suitors.
Currently titled Heroes: Eclipsed, the third iteration would be set several years after the original series and follow evos that are, "being awakened and discovering powers that will change their lives. Featuring familiar villains and new enemies who once again will be attempting to suppress this next step in human evolution, it will be up to this new group of heroes to save the world."
It seems Kring is using the week of the solar eclipse as the perfect backdrop to pitch a sequel series to network execs.
The original Heroes ran from 2006 to 2010 and debuted to incredibly strong ratings and became something of a cultural phenomenon, leading to an Outstanding Drama Series Emmy nomination in its first seasons.
However, the show struggled to maintain its audience in subsequent seasons as more diverse and nuanced superhero projects began to pop up at movie theaters and on other networks.
A sequel, titled Heroes Reborn was launched in 2015, which had an eerily similar premise as the aforementioned Eclipsed. It followed a new cast but featured several returning favorites from the original series including Sendhil Ramamurthy (Dr Mohinder Suresh), Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura), and Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman).
Heroes Reborn was conceived as a miniseries event and did not have a follow-up season. However, unlike Reborn, Eclipsed is being pitched as an ongoing series.
Stay tuned for future updates as we await news on what network picks up the series. Do you the series will manage to convince Hayden Panettiere to return?
