The 6th Gun NBC

NBC has declined to pick-up the option on a full season order of episodes for The Sixth Gun, which is based on the Oni Press comic book series. The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise as previous reports from the Hollywood trades seemed to indicate that the show was virtually a lock for a roster spot on the peacock network's Fall lineup. The pilot secured a talented cast that included Aldis Hodge, Laura Ramsey, Michiel Huisman, Elena Santine and Graham McTavish. With The CW's Amazon put on hold, it's looking a bit like 2012 all over again, which saw pilots for Powers, AKA Jessica Jones, Wonder Woman and Punisher all passed over. Currently, the lone hope for a new television show based on a comic book property is ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but there's been no official word yet. Should we be worried?

UPDATE: Reaction from the comic book creators.

During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.

The Sixth Gun and Bloodline were the only NBC pilots I was really interested in and they were both passed on.

No way they'll pass on SHIELD. With the Avengers success and money it's made, as well as knowing that show is connected to the universe, it'll be picked up. They'll have the movie audience already hooked in.

I am shocked that ABC is not picking up SHEILD since their freakin parent company is Disney!!!! And personally I am not sold on the concept of the show but if I gave Arrow a chance I will do the same for this show!

You left out Locke and Key, though that belongs on a list of promising comic based pilots. I'd love to see the original Powers piilot (here's hoping they put it on the first season set should it ever go to series) and AKA Jessica Jones finally getting made would cool, but Wonder Woman wasn't exactly a winner and The Punisher? With Frank as a cop by day and vigilante by night? Yeah... no.

Hopefully it leaks online at some point though. Just for my own curiosity to be soothed. Amazon isn't a shocker. With WB gearing up for possibly Wonder Woman plans in regard to Justice League, I can imagine they want to wait to see which version they want to put forward as the primary face of the character. WB also had a Spectre deal set up at Fox, but I susepct that version won't happen anytime too soon with the Dark Universe film in development.

This show seems interesting. It seems better suited for cable; a network like AMC, FX or HBO cold pick it up. Maybe it can revitalized through Netflix.

ABC is having Upfronts (Press Conference) on the 14th and it's expected to be officially announced then that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been picked up. One of the trades may get the scoop before that date though.

NBC is making a big mistake.
CBM's are so huge right now, so they need to stop being scared and just adapt one already.

We wanna see Sixth Gun, Jessica Jones, Powers, Wonder Woman and more! .... Silly NBC.
