BLACK MIRROR Season 5 Pushed Back Due To BANDERSNATCH, But Still Set To Arrive In 2019

2019 is going to be a big year for Netflix. Not only did the streaming service confirm that the third season of Stranger Things will premiere in July, but it's also being reported that the highly anticipated fifth season of Black Mirror will also arrive this year.

Black Mirror producer Annabel Jones revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that season five of the hit sci-fi anthology series was actually pushed back due to the complex nature of the recently released interactive episodeBlack Mirror: Bandersnatch

While the premiere date of season five was shifted back, Netflix maintains that the new season is set to arrive in 2019. Unfortunately, we still don't have an exact launch date or episode count.

In the meantime, Netflix released Black Mirror: Bandersnatch this past week. The choose-your-own-adventure-style episode puts you in control of key decisions which ultimately shape how the story unfolds. With reportedly five different endings and over a trillion permutations to the storyBandersnatch is said to have taken an "enormous" amount of creative time, which is why season five had to be delayed.

In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is currently streaming on Netflix.

I’m cool with this. I’ve had to wait a year and about a half for the final GoT season, I can wait a bit for this. Bandersnatch has more than quenched my Black Mirror thirst. Such a fun time. Still going back and trying to get different scenarios.

I enjoyed Bandersnatch but it gets old very fast. I'm excited for season 5 and surprised we're getting it this year.

Back to the traditional narrative

Pleasantly surprised. I thought for sure that this was going to be a substitute for season 5.

I really liked bandersnatch but that's mainly because I'm a big Philip K Dick fan and I enjoyed the references to him and the themes of what is our reality. It did lose it's apeal a little towards the end but that was mostly because the story was kinda lacking. I can see interactive tv being the next big thing in storytelling if someone wanted to go really hardcore and dig deeper into the theme of parallel universes.

Bandersnatch was pretty fun, it was actually the first time I ever bothered to watch any content of Black Mirror. Maybe I'll give it all a shot later if I retain this new found likeness to it.

Meh, I wasn't the biggest fan of this, personally. I watched it over the weekend with my SO and I feel like it would've been a lot better had I watched it alone on my laptop or my streaming device.

That being said, it -- as an episode of Black Mirror -- was pretty decent overall. I liked the super meta-textual parts of it. But I don't see this "catching on," so to speak. I think people just want to flip on Netflix and veg out, with as little interaction as possible.

Pretty good episode overall. I just hope this is a one-off, and not a recurring thing for Black Mirror.

I'll be waiting right here for season 5...
