LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS VOLUME 2 Hits Netflix On May 14; First Trailer For The Animated Anthology Series Released

The first trailer for Love Death + Robots Volume 2 has arrived, teasing "naked giants, Christmas demons, and robots-gone-wild." Volume 2 will premiere in May with Volume 3 already ordered for 2022.

Love Death + Robots, the adult-oriented animated anthology series from Tim Miller and David Fincher, is set to return for its second season next month. While we knew a second season was in production, we didn't know when it would be coming. Netflix surprised us all by announcing its release date and debuting the first trailer as well.

The intriguing trailer for Love Death + Robots Volume 2 teases multiple short stories featuring "naked giants, Christmas demons, and robots-gone-wild." Of course, like the first season, all of these stories are presented through various forms of animation, from CG to traditionally hand-drawn.

The first season of Love Death + Robots was comprised of 18 short stories that spanned the science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy genres. According to IGN, who spoke with Tim Miller and director Jennifer Yuh Nelson ahead of today's announcement, Netflix and the creative team has taken a different approach for Volume 2 and the now-greenlit Volume 3, which will premiere in 2022. Eight episodes will be released this year, with an additional eight coming next year.

“The first season of LDR was really groundbreaking for a lot of people,” explained Nelson, who joined the series this year as supervising director. “And people saw that and thought, ‘This is possible’; that level of beauty and quality and just subversive stories was possible. As a fan, that's something I've always wanted to do.”

Check out the trailer and poster for Love Death + Robots Volume 2 below and get ready for its premiere on Netflix on May 14.

@marvel72 - Yes. The purgatory one and the one where the strangers were caught in an endless cycle of killing each other are faves. Although all were pretty good in their own way.

@The1st - I liked the arena fight one and I think the one were they witness a murder from out of a window and are on the run.

@marvel72 - Yeah, I did like the arena one as well. The second one you're talking about is the same as the one I was. They can never take a moment to identify they're in an endless loop and stop the cycle. Also, that dance scene the woman does during that episode...

First season was great. Several shorts looked like they would've made an intriguing series, especially the werewolf super soldiers imo.

Half of the first season seemed like a bad videogame cinematic trailer. Some shorts of the other half were either uninspired (meaning also that even if visually interesting, was heavily inspired by something famous and similar) or boring. A quarter of it was really good.

Decent though, for it is a tech sandbox for animation studios.

Loved the first season and can't wait.

I'm more looking forward to Mythic Quest season2 the week before though.

I really enjoyed exploring the first season... a bit disappointed that the next batch is essentially divided up into two releases a year apart, but still looking forward to it.

LD+R is is one of my favorite Netflix shows and I've been patiently waiting for more. I knew it would take some time considering the animation but this new season looks very promising. I'll probably binge it all in one day.

Also, Michael B. Jordan is in this? What a surprise.

I really like S01, so I'm very happy we're getting more. A couple of the ideas seemed like they could easily be spun-off into their own shows, sad that that's not on the table for them. I hope the quality is a bit more consistent, S01 had high highs and low lows.
I would have loved the monster fighting short to be made into a movie or a mini series, but there's likely not that big of an audience for a graphic, grungy CGI monster fighting show with copious blood, gore and sex in it.

Completely forgot about the first season. I enjoyed it though (the dad, son and the sky fishes being my favorite episode), so I'll be giving this a watch too.
