The first trailer for upcoming Netflix Western The Harder The Fall is now online, and this one looks like an absolute blast.

The teaser kicks-off with "Treacherous" Trudy Smith (Regina King), Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and their gang busting leader Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) out of jail, and it doesn't look like these guys have much interest in taking prisoners. From there, we're introduced to fellow outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors), who sets off with former flame Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler), and Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) to seek vengeance against the ruthless Buck.

This modern spin on the Western genre features a primarily Black cast, and hails from director and producer Jeymes Samuel, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Boaz Yakin. Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, James Lassiter, and Lawrence Bender are on board as producers, and the all-star cast also includes Delroy Lindo, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole, and Danielle Deadwyler.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think.

The Harder The Fall doesn't have a release fate yet, but we'll keep you updated.

Bummed Regina isn’t directing but otherwise this look seriously great. Such a stacked cast. Majors blew my mind in Lovecraft Country n Stanfield is one of the best out there! Oh and Zazie Beetz too! Man, Christmas came early

On one hand, cast is awesome, story seems cool, and damm I love a good western.

On the other hand, did I just see a trailer where every black person is shooting a white person? Do I really need to explain how that can give a controversial message?

@JayBarrick - I have a feeling if you were black back then, you really would have liked to have shot a white person. Like how my great grand parents told my uncle they would disown his ass if he brought home that white girl from college he was screwing.

@BlackConvoy - Can't argue with that. Most likely true.

However, I have a feeling if you were white back then, you really would have liked to slave some black person. But we don't go making that seem cool on movie trailers any more, do we?

Netflix outings are usually poor so i'm not expecting much, but this seems fun!

For a Western, it is a trailer that is weirdly devoid of any sense of justice… there’s no indication that anybody being gunned down needed to be stopped, or if there are any good guys in the film at all.

@Waddles - Yeah, that’s what I assumed, although the “with no mercy” description certainly doesn’t make him the clear good guy.

But really it’s that all of the killing/shooting in the trailer seems to be done by people with the upper hand. Even in westerns about bad guy protagonists the trailers tend towards set ups where they’re the underdogs.

@Chewtoy - Westerns aren’t all about justice…
