THE WITCHER Has Become The First Major UK-Based Drama To Be Put On Hold Over Coronavirus Concerns

Netflix has already halted production on its upcoming films and TV shows, but it's now been confirmed that The Witcher has become the first major UK-based drama to be put on hold due to coronavirus!

Unsurprisingly, online streaming giant Netflix has chosen halt production on The Witcher for two weeks. Deadline reports that the series is now the first major TV show produced in the UK to be put on hold by coronavirus, and notes that the fantasy drama is filmed at Arborfield Studios which is around 40 miles from London.

An email was sent out last night to the production team who will thankfully continue to be paid.

Whether this means season 2 will be delayed is unclear, as it, and every other show's fate, hinges on what happens over the coming weeks and months with the pandemic.

Alas, a significant delay would mean seeing less of the hunky Henry Cavill sitting around shirtless in a bathtub, but all joking aside, this was definitely the right decision on Netflix's part.

"We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time…this will allow everyone the time to make informed decisions about how to move forward," a source tells the trade. "The coronavirus has raised challenging issues for everyone working on set on productions for Netflix. We are very grateful for all the work everyone has done to keep cast and crew safe during this pandemic."

Deadline adds that while The Witcher is the first overseas production to be hit in such a significant way by coronavrius, Netflix's independently-produced shows in the UK are also being encouraged to wind down for two weeks. For you Royal fans out there, that does include The Crown!

The U.K. has had, from what I’ve seen, the most casual response, so this definitely feels like a bad sign.

@WeaponXCII - It's been given so many crazy faux reasons, from "Herd Immunity" (basically let everyone get it and some might develop an immunity) to "Old people shouldn't self-isolate because they might get lonely" and "School children will never do as their told so don't bother telling them to stay indoors".

But we all know the real reason. It's because UK leader Boris Johnson has just illegally instigated a no-deal Brexit and they literally can't afford to close schools. I mean no-one can really, but they REALLY cant afford it.

That's why he's "redefining" the term mass gathering so he can still keep schools open and telling the people of the UK "I'm gonna level with the people of the UK, be prepared to lose your loved ones, they will die in the coming months".
(that's an actual quote)

Meanwhile supposed evil corporations like Disney are like "Screw money, human life is more important".

More international politics with Gwen Lantern later, now on with the weather.

@WeaponXCII - as someone who lives in England, yeah I think the majority of us are trying to keep a level head and get on with things.

I have seen some stupid crap the past week though but nothing outside of people bulk buying toilet paper. I bought a pack the other day, put my bag down for a minute, looked back and someone stole it out the bag :')
