ANDOR Star Stellan Skarsgård Says The Series Is "A Little More Than Little Plastic People Falling Over"

Talking about his role in Disney+ series Andor, Stellan Skarsgård has explained why the opportunity to work with filmmaker Tony Gilroy led to him heading into a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Read on for details...

Stellan Skarsgård is no stranger to blockbuster movies, and after a stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we'll next see him in Denis Villeneuve's Dune and Star Wars TV series Andor. The former required him to sit for eight hours in the make-up chair to play Baron Harkonnen, but the actor recently told The Daily Beast that it was worth it in order to work with the filmmaker.

Well, it turns out he had a similar reason for signing up to the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff.

While we don't know who - or what - he'll be playing in the series, Skarsgård has revealed that the opportunity to work with showrunner Tony Gilroy was a huge part of why he chose to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

"When I saw Rogue One, it had much more atmosphere and seemed a little more mature - and that was Tony Gilroy, who’s the showrunner on this one," the actor explained. "So, hopefully this one will be a little more than little plastic people falling over."

He doesn't sound like the biggest Star Wars fans, then, but Skarsgård seems confident that Andor will be a break from the direction the franchise usually heads in (even if the series is likely to see plenty of Rebels vs. Stormtroopers action). Still, it's nice to know that we're getting a series that will seemingly have more to it than just nonstop action scenes as we explore Cassian's early days in the Rebellion.

As for Gilroy, he took charge of Rogue One during the reshoots that reshaped the movie, which makes him something of a natural fit for this show. He was supposed to direct as well, but travel issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic meant the filmmaker had to pass on that side of things.

We'd be willing to bet that Skarsgård is playing a villain in Andor, but even though a cast list has been revealed, we're still not entirely sure who is playing who in this corner of the Galaxy.

Are you excited for the Disney+ series?

I could see him as both a Rebel and Imperial Officer, so I'm intrigued to see what side he ends up on.

Other than that, I just don't really look forward to this a lot. There has to be something that makes this show unique, otherwise they could've made this a Poe Dameron show as well.

I watched Nightcrawler recently and make Jake was despicable but utterly engaging, you couldn't take your eyes off him.
Loved the way he drew you in and just kept your attention

Good news guys. This is a star wars show designed for people who don't like star wars.

Rogue One was probably the strongest film in the Disney Era but even that was largely carried by the (very) strong third act as it suffered most Garrett Edwards films issues of weak characters and plot that just sort of treads water for the first two acts.

Still enjoy it and a step in the right direction, but to me it’s still the TV side with Rebels, Clone Wars S7, and Mandalorian that have truely carried on the spirit of the series.

Hopefully this show will be more like the last act of Rogue One and less like the first 2/3s. Honestly, as of right now I have no interest or expectations for this show as it centers around a character I barely even remembered.

Just recently started watching Vikings, that Skarsgard crowd are a talented bunch. Anyway, really no interest in this show outside of the Vader cameo (not definite but come on, it'll make sense for them to add him) so we'll see

I'm surprised this show is happening. I echo a lot of comments; the character was fine but in no way was outstanding or worthy of further delving IMO. Not sure I would watch this. Def looking forward to other D+ SW stuff though.
