OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Talks Yoda's Absence From The Show As New Spoiler Stills Are Released

Yesterday's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi delivered more than its fair share of incredible moments, and it was 45 minutes of television that we're sure Star Wars fans won't soon forget. Understandably, Lucasfilm has decided to keep a tight lid on major spoilers with this first round of stills, but there are still some cool moments worth talking about.

We see Ben as he prepares to confront Darth Vader one last time (until A New Hope, anyway), and the Jedi Master's exchange with Kumail Nanjiani's Haja Estree as the fake Jedi learns he's earned the trust of the legendary Obi-Wan.

Finally, there's an awesome shot of Queen Breha Organa (Simone Kessell) and Senator Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits). They played a small, but pivotal role in the series, and getting to spend more time with them has only made the eventual destruction of Alderaan all the more tragic.

In related news, Ewan McGregor recently appeared on The Jess Cagle Show (via SFFGazette.com) and was asked why we haven't seen more Jedi in the series. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan and Yoda said goodbye to one another, but with the former insinuating he might play a role in connecting Ben with Qui-Gon Jinn, why was he nowhere to be found in Obi-Wan Kenobi?

"All he's got left is to look after Luke Skywalker. That's all he's got left, really, and to try to communicate with his old master, Qui-Gonn, in his spiritual life," the actor explained. "But he can't reach out to any of his old [mentors]. He can't reach out to Yoda, he can't reach out to any of the surviving Jedi for fear of giving himself away."

"If a Jedi uses the Force in this period of time, the Inquisitors are going to be able to sense that, and they're going to know where you are," McGregor said of Obi-Wan's decision to cut himself off from the Force after Revenge of the Sith. "It's like using your phone or something, I guess [Laughs]. It'll ping off a tower somewhere if you use the Force."

We were never expecting to see Yoda in this series, but the actor's comments certainly help address a few minor questions fans have had about Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's hard to say whether Lucasfilm will ever explain what happened to Yoda during his time on Dagobah or why he lost his mind in the space of two decades, but we're sure the character will return at some point.

Take a look at those new stills from the finale below:

That excuse kinda falls apart after episode 2. Sure, it's possible that could've revealed the location of the other jedi, but that's not the excuse he gave.

@Origame - I agree. While Degobah could mask the force since it is teeming with life and force energy, Luke using the force in a big way to destroy the Death Star should have tipped the inquisitors off. And before Vader realized Like was his son, why would the send the inquisitors after Luke to Hoth or elsewhere?

Hence my statement below. The inquisitors make the continuity all the more complex.

@SpaceParanoids - I know that at least some of the inquisitors including the grand inquisitor are dead by that point in continuity

@SpaceParanoids - I think the problem is that Rebels is a dumb kids show like Clone Wars, and retconning the movies to add helicopter goths is equally dumb

@Origame - It does fall apart in this series. But Inquisitors have been known to key in on areas where an individual has recently used the Force.

It even happened in the opening of the video game Fallen Order. When Cal Kestis is in hiding and working in a salvage yard on a backwater planet, his friend starts to fall to his death and Cal uses the Force to save him. Its the first time he's used the Force since Order 66. But the very next day the Empire and a couple Inquisitors show up specifically looking for a Jedi that they know is there.

In one way it is consistent with what the Grand Inquisitor was saying in Episode 1 about how Jedi can't help themselves when it comes to helping people in need. But to your point, this excuse Ewan is giving doesn't really match up with the events of the show.

While the inquisitors are somewhat cool, the creation of them makes the continuity more complex.

It was far more simple for Kenobi to hide on Tatoonie and even use the force when he had no chance of being detected.

I always thought it was just Vader and an elite team of his stormtroopers that went around hinting the remaining Jedi.

The more they overload the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Personally, I forgot it all rather quickly. It's poorly written fan fiction at its best.

@McMurdo - The sad thing is that it's as cheesy as the prequels, but has actual character development that they left out of that trilogy. So it's kinda necessary if you have those movies in continuity.

It works well as a fan edited 2hr movie (shameless plug for my edit)

I finished the last episode last night.

Some thoughts:

The action and suspense was excellent. I kept fearing for the lives of Leia, Obi-Wan (Ben), and later Luke and his adopted parents. Fortunately, they lived.

And, for f#ck's sake, I kept thinking Vader would die, but I guess they need him for late. I guess they didn't want to go the early MCU route and kill the bad guys.

Now I have to wait for more shows or possibly even some movies to see what happens to these characters.

Anyway, hopefully this series will lead to more series or films, so this Star Wars thing can get more exposure and possibly become a big thing.

Or not. Time will tell.

@LSHF - I was about 75% through reading this before the penny dropped. There are so many idiot kids about now this level of sarcasm has become subtle.

Well, I hope you enjoyed it to some degree. I know I enjoyed thinking of it and typing it up.

Top is me during the rematch of Obi Wan and Vader.
The bottom is me when they would randomly cut to Reva chasing Luke.

I really wanna see more of Alderaan, and Bail & Breha. Hopefully we can get some of that in the Andor show later this year, which I'm still looking forward to

@bkmeijer1 - I'm not sure he's in Andor, but I do know Mon Mothma will be.

I hope while he was filming Obi-wan they shot a scene of him on Alderaan as this giant green laser hits the ground and the planet explodes.

It would make the scene hurt even more for the audience and for Leia. It already does after watching Obi-wan Kenobi, it's just so sad.

@Timerider84 - I think there is a good chance Bail will be too then.

Anyway, Bail is probably my favorite side character with one of the more interesting arcs. His whole journey from Episode III and IV is kinda tragic, especially with how it ends.

If we get a shot of him and Breha while on Alderaan as it is about to get blasted would indeed be emotional, unlike seeing random folk on Hosnian Prime in VII.
