STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Once Again Rumored To Be Getting A Second Season On Disney+

It's been a while since we've heard from Lucasfilm about its plans for Star Wars moving forward, but a new report claims the studio is moving forward with a second season of The Acolyte. Check it out!

We've been hearing rumblings about there being plans in place for The Acolyte to get a second season for some time now. However, even though we've had no official confirmation, it sounds like producing another batch of episodes is still very much the plan at Lucasfilm.

According to StarWarsNews.net (via SFFGazette.com), the Star Wars TV series - set hundreds of years before The Phantom Menace - a second season is currently "planned." As of now, we don't know whether it's entered development, especially after delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The Acolyte producer Karyn McCarthy is suing Disney and Lucasfilm following her dismissal from the series and, in her lawsuit, it was confirmed the studios had assured her "the story arc of the show, as well as the company’s business plans, called for The Acolyte to run for multiple seasons."

Current Disney CEO Bob Iger is looking to reduce costs and minimise the company's streaming output, meaning it's unclear whether that's going to ultimately lead to a reduction in Star Wars content on television. We know the plan is to get this Galaxy Far, Far Away back into theaters in the long run but Star Wars has found a huge amount of success on the small screen since The Mandalorian debuted in 2019.

Production on The Acolyte is believed to have wrapped back in June, and while we'd initially hoped to see the series hit Disney+ this year, both that and Skeleton Crew now look to be gearing for a 2024 release instead.

Very little has been revealed about the show - only fans at Star Wars Celebration have seen a teaser trailer - but fans remain hopeful it informs what we've seen throughout the rest of this franchise (speculation Emperor Palpatine's Master, Darth Plagueism is a lead character continues to run rampant).

The Acolyte will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era with the story of former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva and Joonas Suotamo.

In addition to writing and directing, Leslye Headland serves as an executive producer with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson produce. As for the rest of the show's writing team, that's said to include Jason Milcallef, Charmaine De Grate, Jasmyne Flournoy, Eileen Shim, Claire Kiechef, Kor Adana, Cameron Squires, Jocelyn Bioh, and Jen Richards.

The Acolyte is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.

Last time they were moving like this, we got Andor. And never forget, you lot all thought that was going to be shit too.

@FireandBlood - ...can you blame us with Disney's track record?
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 11/15/2023, 6:19 AM
@Origame - Yes, I can. You could maybe argue Boba Fett and Obi-Wan were bad at a push, but most would agree they were just mediocre. But Mando, Ahsoka, Andor, Bad Batch, Rebels and The Clone Wars are all great.

Problem with a lot of you guys, you average out someone’s track record based on a single project you didn’t like, ignoring all the well received projects entirely to fit your narrative.

Outside the sequels, Disney’s track record with Star Wars is fairly good. And that’s forgetting the fact outside of the first two movies, Star Wars always had a shaky track record long before Disney came along. Or are we still pretending everyone always loved RoTJ and the prequels?

@FireandBlood - it's probably because I grew up watching both the originals and prequels on tv, but I've loved them since I first saw them.

That aside, I do agree their track record is pretty solid and people just use the thing they didn't like as proof the whole track record is bad.

And it's Star Wars, people are always gonna disagree about what it is and should be.

@bkmeijer1 - I’ve always loved them as well, don’t get me wrong. But from an objective standpoint, those movies are guilty for all kinds of bad. I can acknowledge that and still enjoy them for what they are though.

@FireandBlood - or maybe, just maybe, these shows in general aren't as good as you're making them out to be? Like, you seriously called Boba fett and obi wan mid at best, when those don't even make sense based on internal logic, let alone the wider star wars universe.

@FireandBlood - I hope it's good, but I'm surprised a second season is being discussed before the first has even come out...

@Origame - It’s not really about what I think, because in the grand scheme of things, what me or you think is irrelevant. But collectively, Obi-Wan and Boba Fett were received more favourably than not, and that’s what matters.

You put way too much importance on your own opinion, deluding yourself into thinking what you have to say dictates how these shows/movies were received, knowing full well it doesn’t.

@FireandBlood - ...based on what?
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 11/15/2023, 8:38 AM
@FireandBlood - oh definitely. There are definitely a lot of things I can pick out that don't work, but unlike others is that I average it out based on the things I do like. I too like them for what they are, not dislike them for what I want them to be

@FireandBlood - That's not true at all. Boba Fett and Obi-Wan are still being mocked too this day for how asinine the writing and directing was. Even the little Leia actor was throwing shade at them. Can you find corners of the internet where people liked those and loved TLJ, absolutely. Do they make up a sizable amount people, not at all.

So, once again, clickbait.

''Emperor Palpatine's Master, Darth Plagueism''

I kinda read this as Darth Plagiarism instead. Presenting work as one's own without the consent of the original author sounds like a very Dark Side thing to do.

Jokes aside, I could see it run for multiple seasons. The premise and setting lend itself to it, so if it's good I'll say go for it.

I think it's hilarious they are still trying to sell us this High Republic garbage. I can't stop laughing at them, my cheeks hurt, ouch LOL

Hopefully their plans come to full fruition and it's executed as well as Andor.
