THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Takes A Break From The Main Storyline To Catch Up With An Old Friend - SPOILERS

We'd heard that this week's episode of The Book of Boba Fett was going to feature a few surprises, and Chapter 5 actually took a break from the main storyline completely to focus on a face from the past.

Last week's episode of The Book of Boba Fett teased "The Return of The Mandalorian," and Chapter 5 wasted no time at all in reacquainting us with Din Djarin. In fact, we didn't see Lord Fett at all!

Playing out like a prologue to The Mandalorian Season 3, this episode follows Djarin as he collects a bounty and returns to The Armorer to have his wounds tended to. When Paz Vizsla spots the Darksaber, he challenges Djarin to single combat in an attempt to reclaim the blade of his ancestors. Djarin prevails, but when The Armorer asks if he has ever removed his helmet, he decides not to lie and is banished.

Din is told he must travel to the mines beneath Mandalore to beg forgiveness, but that's going to have to wait.

Mando then takes a commercial flight to Tatooine where he believes Peli Motto has a new Razorcrest waiting. Unfortunately, the ship turns out to be a Naboo N-1 starfighter - and it's seen better days. Djarin agrees to let Motto complete her repairs (it helps to know a few Jawas... and have dated one!), and is very impressed when he takes his new craft for a test-flight, though his speeding attracts the attention of two X-Wing pilots (a welcome cameo from Paul Sun-Hyung Lee).

Back in Mos Eisley, Fennec Shand is waiting to ask Djarin for his help in defeating the Pykes. He tells her the job is on the house (he owes Fett a favor), but first he needs to pay a visit to "a little friend." So, it sounds like next Wednesday's episode will feature Grogu, and possibly Luke Skywalker!

@L0RDbuckethead - I'm more troubled by the thought of somebody dating one. she knows they're hairy so that means.....no, you know what, I'm gonna eject that thought from my mind right now.

@L0RDbuckethead - They're described as being rodent-like in the EU material. They're basically bipedal rats

Gotta say, that was the best Star Wars episode (on TV) so far. Goes to show we don’t need legacy characters like Boba to make a great show, as good as Temura is.

Hopefully this is how Halo looks when it comes out.

Anyone else got the Terminator vibes from the Fall of Mandalore flashback?. I also really liked the pod racing call back to lesser appreciated episode 1. Bryce killed it!

@UniqNo - I was thinking the same thing. I literally yelled "Terminator!" when I saw it on screen.

Man, this episode of The Manda…wait, The Book of Mandalo…wait wait, The Book of Boba Fett was amazing

I got a sneaky feeling The Mandalorian season 3 is going to be called 'The MandalorianS'

@UniqNo - That seems like a pretty good call

@AC1 - Probably won't happen, but it would be nice as Boba seems to work better as a supporting character, and could give the series a longer life and more meaningful plots.

@UniqNo - that had been my main issue with the show, Boba just isn't a main character. He is way better as a support character. Anyway I have been enjoying this show for what it is, but this has been by far the best episode
AC1
AC1 - 1/26/2022, 3:51 PM
@UniqNo - I suppose that's true in the sense that Boba will also presumably be doing his own thing on Tatooine when Mando 3 drops, but this episode bringing back the Armorer and Viszla and the last season of Mando featuring Bo Katan and her group makes me think season 3 is going to lean very heavily on Din trying to figure out his place among the Mandalorians now that he's in the weird predicament of not belonging with any of them (seeing as Bo Katan presumably has it out for him seeing as she wants the sabre back and the Armorer banished him) yet also technically being their rightful ruler.

So even if season 3 doesn't get officially renamed "The Mandalorians" like you said I still think you'll be right thematically at least! And I'm sure Boba will at least show up at some point!

Disney kinda shot themselves in the foot. This episode fully cemented how lame this version of Boba Fett is compared to Din Djarin.

Cap1
Cap1 - 1/26/2022, 7:56 AM
@generictheeric - I gotta agree. The first 5 mins alone were better than the entire series so far. Although I do think a lot of SW characters look lame compared to Mando
Matchesz

@generictheeric - I really wish we could be watching Mandalorian 3 instead of this and kept Boba Fetts whole story a mystery.

@Matchesz - I loved the Sarlacc escape and the Tuscan backstory was pretty flippin' cool. Part of me wishes they would've just kept the show focused on the flashback stuff. Boba's "current-day" storyline has been mostly tedious, IMO.
FrankieDedo
FrankieDedo - 1/26/2022, 8:45 AM
@generictheeric - Well, Din Djarin is lame in a lot of other aspects, for example, he can be intimidating but only in a physical way and lacks that leader charisma that boba fett now has thanks to his understanding of community mechanics, things that Din doesn't have because of his disturbed concept of tribe, family and community.

Also he is actually lame because of its leg lol
Matchesz

@Cap1 - Exactly my thoughts

From someone who hasnt watched the episode yet and reading this article im thinking to myself nothings really even happened in the main storyline lol
Cap1
Cap1 - 1/26/2022, 7:59 AM
@Matchesz - It's been 75% flashbacks, and the majority of which have been tedious. It's evident they didn't know how to pack the main narrative throughline so bloated it with irritating filler. Not to mention the awful awful awful indie bikers

This turned into an episode of The Mandalorian. No wonder it was the best episode yet, by a mile. It showed how Boba doesn’t hold a candle to Mando.

Also, now that Din has a new ship, how much do you wanna bet that extra compartment is for little Grogu?

Conquistador - 1/26/2022, 8:25 AM
@Fanmar16 - I was thinking the same, but i felt it drew influence from that, but also Terminator, and i even felt i saw some elements from the Mass Effect games. Someone should just go ahead and Give Bryce Dallas Howard a feature to direct.

It would be great to see the Valley of the Jedi. It could be a place of pilgrimage. Surviving Jedi from all corners of the Galaxy travel to the valley.

Also, ghosts from the past can advise Din Djarin through Luke. He needs some lesson. He needs help to control the Darksaber.

Whoa, they straight up saw the heat Book was getting and had to throw in the whole ass first Episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 to convince fans to stay..... shameless.

Everything they do with Dinn is bad ass, further selling my point they gave everything cool about Boba Fett prime to Dinn. The cool bounty hunter cowboy under a mask who's actually competent in battle and shows the audience why he's cool.... all that is Boba Fetts sctick. That's his act. Or it was before Disney. Now Boba Fett can't act like Boba Fett because Dinn is the new Boba Fett, so now Boba has to be repackaged as an ex Tusken Raider pacifist out of shape crime lord.....

Boba slowly walks around the desert doing nothing.... at least Dinn spent 10 mins limping around a dope ass space staion with classic Star Wars esthetics besides sand.

They had to insert a whole ass Episode of The Mandalorian content that should have appeared on HIS show... just to keep fan hooked on the Book.... laaaaaaame.

"Don't stop watching Boba Fett, kiddos, because you might miss a whole episode of the good Star Wars show we snuck in..... so keep watching...."

Cap1 - 1/26/2022, 8:57 AM
@ElricReturns - Disney didn't just go back to the studio and write/film this entire episode last week cos of the bad reviews lol. The filming and episode schedule was done a long time ago. This just happened to come out now, luckily for them
