Venom: Let There Be Carnage ended with Eddie Brock stranded on the MCU's Earth-616, leaving fans to get excited about the prospect of him clashing with Tom Holland's wall-crawler in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Instead, Venom was relegated to the post-credits scene, with the stringer revealing he'd remained in Mexico and, upon being sent home, that he'd left a piece of the Symbiote behind. According to a recent rumour, though, the plan is for Tom Hardy and Holland's respective Marvel characters to cross paths "sooner than you think."
We'll see what happens there, but Hardy has just taken to Instagram to confirm shooting has now resumed on the threequel. Sporting a massive grin, the actor can be seen having a good time as his Venom 3 director, Kelly Marcel, attempts to concentrate in the background.
You'll notice the actor is wearing the same clothes Eddie had on in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Does this mean we'll see what he got up to on Earth-616 or simply that this story begins immediately after he's sent back to his own reality? Either possibility is likely and means the photo below either means a lot or very little.
Rumours continue to swirl that Venom 3 will revolve around Eddie tracking down his world's Peter Parker, only to find a child instead of the hero known as Spider-Man. We're not sure how much stock we'd put in those claims, though, as Spidey has supposedly been lined up for appearances in each of the Lethal Protector's previous movies, only for nothing to happen.
Talking about his approach to Venom in 2021, Hardy said, "There were other objectives with Venom, but they were minor compared to the main objective: can I land Eddie Brock and Venom as an established Marvel superhero?"
"Venom and Eddie Brock are part of a universal canon among those who know about superheroes, so I don’t want to scratch the record. I’d like to be part of that legacy and not bugger it up completely. Not bring shame on it." As divisive as the movies have been, the actor has been terrific so we'd say he's safe on that front.
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) have both nabbed lead roles in the threequel, though we don't currently know who either of them is playing. As well as returning as Eddie, Hardy also co-wrote Venom 3's story with Marcel before she penned the screenplay. Cameras had been rolling in Spain before the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike forced production to be halted.
Produced by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Hutch Parker, Venom 3 is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 8, 2024.
