Venom is once again on everyone's lips after the release of Insomniac Games' Spider-Man 2. The video game delivers a very different take on the Lethal Protector, albeit one which feels like it respects the character's comic book roots.
The same can't really be said for the Venom movies. While they both have their moments (the sequel was a huge improvement over its predecessor), the wacky direction Eddie Brock and his Symbiote have been taken in just doesn't quite sit right with most fans.
Still, when Venom: Let There Be Carnage ended with Eddie stranded on the MCU's Earth-616, we all started getting excited about the prospect of him clashing with Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Instead, Venom was relegated to Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene, with the stringer revealing he'd remained in Mexico and, upon being sent home, that a piece of his Symbiote was left behind. According to a new rumour, though, the plan is for Hardy and Holland's respective web-slingers to cross paths "sooner than you think."
The claim was dropped by reliable online scooper @MyTimeToShineH, though no additional context was offered.
We don't think this fight will happen in Venom 3 because production was underway before the Hollywood strikes and, around the same time, Holland was said to be still on the fence about signing a new deal with Marvel Studios. Having his Spidey suddenly show up in this threequel would be a perplexing and rushed move on Sony's part and not one we can imagine Holland being on board with.
However, with Spider-Man 4 on the horizon, Daredevil: Born Again undergoing a creative reshuffle, and Peter Parker said to be a lead character in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, could that movie now revolve around the hero getting his alien suit?
It's possible Venom will somehow return to Earth-616 or that an Eddie Variant is introduced who gets to the alien before Peter does. It's tough to figure out what Marvel Studios might be planning, though we'd caution taking this claim with a pinch of salt for the time being, anyway.
Spider-Man 4 doesn't currently have a confirmed release date but Venom 3 is said to be heading our way on July 12, 2024.
