Venom didn't receive the warmest of responses from fans or critics, but it was a huge box office hit and successful enough for Sony Pictures to enlist director Ruben Fleischer to take the helm of Uncharted.
This meant the filmmaker had to take a pass on helming the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, though Andy Serkis delivered what many consider to be a better movie featuring the iconic symbiote. Now, with the stage being set for a potential Spider-Man/Venom crossover down the line, could Fleischer return to the franchise to help make that happen?
"We’ll have to see," he told Cinema Blend in a recent interview. "I mean, it would be honestly a dream come true to have those two worlds converge. It’ll be a formidable battle between those two characters, so...whether or not I direct it, I’ll certainly be excited to see it."
Since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, it's become clear Marvel Studios may have their own plans for the symbiote in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that doesn't mean Tom Hardy's Venom won't cross paths with another wall-crawler and, as the fan art above suggests (via @elilusionistacl), the fan-favourite choice right now is Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man.
Even in the midst of the pandemic, the Venom sequel proved itself a hit (grossing more at the domestic box office than its predecessor). A Venom 3 announcement hasn't been made yet, and it's unclear whether Sony would turn to Fleischer or Serkis to take the helm of a potential threequel.
