We're now just one week away from Venom: Let There Be Carnage tearing its way into theaters, and an international TV spot for the Marvel Comics sequel reveals more about what we should expect.
Whether Eddie Brock likes it or not, it appears Cletus Kasady develops some sort of twisted bond with the reporter. That culminates in a clash between the two which sees the serial killer take a bite out of Eddie, and this is almost certainly how Cletus ends up with his own symbiote. It's a slight departure from the comic books, but also close enough that fans shouldn't be too upset.

On the page, Eddie was imprisoned alongside Cletus after being defeated by Spider-Man. When he escaped, part of his alien costume was left behind and that then bonded with his old cellmate. In this reality, Cletus seems to be a little more proactive, and we know from previous trailers that his powers manifest during his attempted execution (we're assuming Carnage is still meant to be Venom's "son").
Elsewhere in this sneak peek, there are some awesome shots of Carnage in action, and the transformation he undergoes while switching between his human and symbiote forms.
