Today the gaming world and comic book world was hit with a bombshell as
Batman: Arkham Origins was announced taking places back into the Batman: Arkham series. As we know it's Christmas Eve and Black Mask has hired 8 assassins to kill Batman including Deathstroke but there is much more to this game.
This Gotham will be a much more hostile Gotham than before. The GCPD isn't friends with Batman and we learn that we will see a young CAPTAIN Jim Gordon.
Batman: Arkham Origins will have very similar gameplay to its previous Batman games. WB Montreal's intent was to pick up where Rocksteady left off. We will see the return of predator mode, perch-to-perch movement, gliding kicks, and free-form combat. Montreal will develop some new features such as the Remote Claw which allows you to target and pull two objects together.
Another new addition is quick, airborne travel with the Batwing. It's important to note that the Batwing isn't a controllable vehicle. It's a good thing that Montreal is providing the Dark Knight with a quick method of transport. Why you may ask? Gotham is twice the size of Arkham City adding a new island called "New Gotham" to build upon the more familiar 'Old Gotham', which will still feature familiar locations like Amusement Mile and The Bowery.
The Montreal team was intends to maintain the same world "density" even with the doubling its size, adding ideas like 'Crime in Progress' (assist the GCPD and build your reputation) and 'Most Wanted' (track down non-assassin villains). In many cases these side quests will provide the upgrades to Batman's arsenal. These upgrades, combined with the game's existing XP system, funnel into the larger concept of the 'Dark Knight' system, which is basically the team's way of progressively adding more complexity and difficulty to Origins.
Batman: Arkham Origins will also put more emphasis on Batman's detective skills. Cases large and small will serve as a slower change of pace from action, allowing players to investigate crime scenes, gather evidence, analyze data and even return to those scenes with more information later in the game. Over time, as each case is solved, a full video narrative of the case will unlock, piecing together the crime.
While we don't know everything about
Batman: Arkham Origins yet, it's already sounding like WB Montreal knows what they're doing picking up the blueprints from Rocksteady. What are your thought? Comment below. Peace.
