GRAND THEFT AUTO VI Could Be Facing A Major Release Date Delay But Is Still Targeting A Early 2025 Launch

According to a new report, Rockstar Games is struggling with its plan to get Grand Theft Auto VI into stores early next year and that could lead to a significant release date delay. Read on for details...

Would it be an exaggeration to call Grand Theft Auto VI the most highly anticipated video game in history? We don't think so, and while it already feels like we've been waiting a lifetime for Rockstar's next instalments of the long-running franchise, that wait might be about to get even longer.

According to a new report from Kotaku (via GameFragger.com), there's a possibility GTA VI will miss its 2025 release window and slip into 2026.

It sounds like Rockstar is calling its employees back into the office in the hope of speeding things up and, while the current goal is an "early 2025" launch, "it's becoming more and more likely that the sequel might not land until late 2025. It’s also possible that it could even slip into 2026 as production reportedly falls behind."

At times, the site's piece does feel very speculative. However, it comes after the reports mentioned above about employees being mandated to start working five days a week in Rockstar's offices beginning next month (many staff were hired remotely), and it's plausible that they're struggling to keep up.

In fact, that seems to be exactly what's going on because it's said, "that development on GTA 6 has started 'falling behind.'"

"I’m told this has leadership at Rockstar nervous and worried about the game missing the 2025 window and slipping into 2026, and is another big reason the company is pushing for a return to the office in April."

We'll have to wait and see what happens, but with Rockstar still aiming for what sounds like a Spring 2025 release, we're hopeful that, at worst, we'll have this game in time for the holidays next year rather than a 2026 launch which, right now, feels like a lifetime away.

The anticipation surrounding GTA VI has led to some huge leaks, including a hack which put the release of the game at serious risk. Even the trailer found its way online sooner than expected, and part of the reason for getting staff back in the office is said to be security purposes.

"It's amazing when the trailer announcement is huge news, and then we were very gratified when the trailer broke the internet," Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said last month. "In terms of the leak, that's always disappointing for the team, but ultimately, I don't think it hurt us."

Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet. Coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This is from Kotaku? Well they lie and make things up for clicks so I wouldn't present this as news at all, I wouldn't even categorize it as a rumor.

@Doomsday8888 - yup! I say push it back if it needs the delay. We've already been waiting what feels like eons for it. Might as well wait longer if it means we get a AAA game that releases without glitches and bugs for a change. As a giant GTA fan I say let them cook.

Haven’t enjoyed a GTA since Vice City. Fun times cruising around listening to 80s music and picking up hookers.

Were they working with Sweet Baby Inc and now need to purge the toxic nonsense they were told to add in?

GTA 5 was also delayed a year, people will be okay.

@RitoRevolto - RDR2 even more than that. Think it's kinda to be expected even at this point with Rockstar

@bkmeijer1 - True. And while GTA V, story-wise, is lackluster to me, Red Dead Redemption 2 was amazing. I think I'd rather wait another year if it means we'll get a great game because of it.

@RitoRevolto - exactly. They can all the time they need. I'll be waiting, like I've been waiting for years already anyway.

Probably trying to figure out how to monetize the game more, more microtransactions, more dlc, figure out how to sell us 60% of the game with the rest locked behind a paywall

@campblood - DLC for single player Rockstar games ? I wish, brother.

Nah, all of it will be for Online only.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - true, I figure if they see the money on the table for DLC in SP like they used to then they’d want it. But still I 100% any delay if there is one will be from trying to figure out how to bleed more money out of this game with microtransactions . Just look at that dragon game and paying $2 for fast travel.

I have a bad feeling that GTA6 single player car customization and certain clothing items will be paid for with real money

@campblood - I know me and a lot of people would have LOVED DLC for RDR2 single olayer, but it seems they bet all-or-nothing on Online, and that failed miserably.

*Sad potato noise*

I'm not buying. If there was a chance it would slip into 2026, they would've known in december and they wouldn't have slapped 2025 purposefully on the trailer. 2025 itself already covers enough delays within that release window.
