Nearly a decade after he was attached to the lead role,
Variety is now reporting that 2x Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg (
The Departed;
The Fighter) has joined the cast of Sony Pictures'
Uncharted, their upcoming adaptation of the hit video game series of the same name, as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, who, for those unfamiliar, is an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, as well as a friend, mentor and father figure to Nathan Drake.
Wahlberg joins a cast headlined by Tom Holland (
Spider-Man: Far From Home;
Avengers: Endgame), who will star as a young Nathan Drake in this all-new origin story for the legendary treasure hunter.
Travis Knight (
Bumblebee;
Kubo and the Two Strings) is directing with a screenplay from Rafe Judkins (
Chuck;
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (
Iron Man;
Men in Black: International).
With casting underway, filming should begin early next year as Sony has already dated
Uncharted for a December 18, 2020 release date, although that's always subject to change.
