Nearly a decade after he was attached to the lead role, Variety is now reporting that 2x Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Departed; The Fighter) has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' Uncharted, their upcoming adaptation of the hit video game series of the same name, as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, who, for those unfamiliar, is an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, as well as a friend, mentor and father figure to Nathan Drake.

Wahlberg joins a cast headlined by Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home; Avengers: Endgame), who will star as a young Nathan Drake in this all-new origin story for the legendary treasure hunter.

Travis Knight (Bumblebee; Kubo and the Two Strings) is directing with a screenplay from Rafe Judkins (Chuck; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Men in Black: International).

With casting underway, filming should begin early next year as Sony has already dated Uncharted for a December 18, 2020 release date, although that's always subject to change.

The fact that Wahlberg was originally going to place drake and is now playing sully in the same movie is [frick]ing hilarious to me. Will Nathan fillion be playing a character in it too then?

@Mrcool210 - and if we got a sequel to the last airbender shyamalan would've cast dante basco as some guy in the background. Because these film makers have become less creators and more trolls.

@Mrcool210 - Came here to post this. This movie has been in development hell for so long that Wahlberg aged out of playing Drake and aged in to playing Sully.

Weird.

@L0RDbuckethead - Lol I think the real truth is Tom Holland is just more bankable than Wahlberg now.

Bruce Campbell was meant to play Sully.

Interesting choice. Honestly ever since the Far From Home trailer, I've wanted them to cast Jake Gyllenhaal as Sam Drake. On a related note I actually thought the bad guy in Uncharted 4 looked remarkably similar to Gyllenhaal.

Mark and Tom are both tiny...

I don’t see either of them growing😏 into these roles

I'm going to be honest, I thought Bumblebee was one of the worst movies I've seen last year, so Travis Knight being paired with this awful miscast is really not inspiring confidence when I'm trying to give this film a fair shake.

@ScarletWarlock - I agree. It's rare that I come out of a movie thinking "Oh my god, that was awful." but Bumblebee was one of those times. The Last Jedi and Ant-Man and the Wasp are the only other examples I can think of in recent memory.

As if Holland as Nathan Drake wasn't odd enough.

Sophie Cookson to play Elena Fisher.

@Repian - Not sure why she'd be in it, this is a prequel featuring a young Drake, and they met in Drake's Fortune.

Unless they're gonna go all Hollywood and do their own thing, which could be the case.
