SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 Poster Arrives Online Ahead Of Tomorrow's First Trailer

The first Sonic The Hedgehog movie proved to be a surprise hit for Paramount Pictures (it currently holds the title of fifth highest-grossing video game movie in history), and a sequel is set to spin into theaters next year.

It's just been announced that the trailer will be online at some point tomorrow, and the first promo poster has been released in anticipation. There's no sign of Knuckles (Idris Elba), but the titular blue speedster (Ben Schwartz) is joined by Tails the fox (who will be voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and the villainous Doctor Robotnik/Eggman (Jim Carrey).

The cast will also feature returning human stars James Marsden (X-Men; Westworld), Tika Sumpter (Mixed-ish; Ride Along), and Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984; Like a Boss), along with new addition Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds; S.W.A.T.)

A plot synopsis recently leaked online, giving us a much better idea of what to expect from the sequel's story.

"After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands."

Director Jeff Fowler returns to helm Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is set for release on April 8, 2022.

I'm the youngest of three brothers. When I played, I always played as Tails. He's my dude.

@BlackBeltJones - can't wait for that knuckles movie, featuring a long since retired knuckles taking care of a senile doctor robotnik when a little girl echidna shows up.

Cool excited to see this. The first one has its issues just as a movie but I think it’s easily the best videogame movie to come out. It’s cheesy and silly but I think it understands what Sonic is to Sonic fans (and how cheesy and ridiculous those games are) in a way that made it really enjoyable for me. I never thought I’d say this but I’ll probably be watching this when it comes out

Jim’s looking more like a game-accurate Egghead to me!

The first one was saved only by the grace of Jim Carrey. That he's in the second one is the only reason I'll be watching it. And hopefully laughing my *ss off. Is there a release date for it yet? (other than 2022.)

I'm looking forward to it. Honestly Sonic the Hedgehog so far might be the best movie adaptation of a video game, not like it was a high bar to hurdle but it was definitely a very fun film.

Got stoned for the first one and had a fun time. I’ll continue the trend. Maybe I should do the same for Venom 2. Still have to watch that.

This might be the only video game movie I'm really looking forward to right now. The first one took some stuff from the games, but managed to reinvent it in a way and still worked. Would be great if they can do that again

I can't believe how excited I am for this lmao.

The first one to me, was the best video game movie ever to me(which is weird to say haha) and being a massive Sonic fan, makes it that much more exciting.
