BOX OFFICE: WONDER WOMAN Is Holding Better Than Any Other Superhero Movie In The Past 15 Years
More good news for Warner Bros. today as Wonder Woman has crossed $750 million at the worldwide box office and continues to overperform. Find out just how well the DC Comics movie is doing after the jump!
Wonder Woman exceeded expectations when it opened last month and weeks later, the movie continues to overperform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie boasts the best hold of any superhero film in over 15 years at the North American box office, an incredible result when you think that the last decade and a half has seen the release of the likes of The Avengers and The Dark Knight.
Currently in its seventh weeks of release, Wonder Woman looks set to ultimately earn upwards of $390 million domestically and that makes it the eighth biggest comic book movie of all-time and puts it ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! The DC Comics adaptation will earn roughly 3.8 times the $103.3 million it made during its opening weekend and that's a massive multiple for the genre.
"It feels like Wonder Woman will play all the way through August," Warner Bros.' Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution tells the trade. "Right now, the movie is still in about 3,000 locations. Usually, the theater count would be a fraction of that at this point." Overseas, Wonder Woman has made $380 million for a global cume of $750 million. That's an epic result and one which is better than anyone initially thought. Needless to say, the studio will want to hurry up with the sequel!
