Ten Actresses Who Should be Considered to Play Wonder Woman

Ten Actresses Who Should be Considered to Play Wonder Woman

With the Justice League movie confirmed for a 2017 release, the Warrior Princess is set to make her film debut as a member of the team. I've made a list of ten actress I'd like to see as the Amazon Heroine.

Despite being one of DC Comics's most popular characters, Wonder Woman has never had a successful movie franchise. Although she has yet to appear in a solo movie, Wonder Woman has been confirmed to be one of the main characters in a Justice League movie for a 2017 release.

10: Malin Akerman (Watchmen)

Pros: While Akerman's performance as Silk Spectre in Watchmen was far from amazing, she is still a pretty good actress and has proved that she can handle an action movie.

Cons: After Watchmen, Akerman has stuck on doing smaller films, so I am not sure whether or not she would star in another big budget film. Of course, a good script could change anyone's mind.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

9: Gina Carano (Haywire)

Pros: An obvious fan favorite, Carano had a strong headstart with Haywire and acquired greater fame with Fast and Furious 6. As a bonus, Carano is a trained martial arts fighter.

Cons: Carano was chosen as the lead in a film adaptation of Rob Liefield's Avengelyne, possibly ruling out a Wonder Woman casting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

8: Kristen Stewart (Snow White and the Huntsman)

Pros: This casting decision is the most controversial, and for good reason. At first, I did not like Stewart (mostly because of the Twilight films), but Snow White and the Huntsman proved that she can handle an action film. She has also delivered strong performances in everything that is not Twilight. If she can perfect her acting skills, she would get for the role.

Cons: At 23, Stewart would be too young to play Wonder Woman. Perhaps she could play Wonder Girl.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

7: Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time)

Pros: Goodwin's performance in Once Upon a Time has proven that she is a capable actress.

Cons: Given how popular Once Upon a Time is, it is possible Goodwin may devote all her time to the show, ruling out a Wonder Woman casting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

6: Adrianne Palicki (G.I. Joe: Retaliation)

Pros: Palicki was already chosen to play Wonder Woman in the failed 2011 pilot and is still intrested in taking the role again. Also, the new G.I. Joe movie has proven that she can handle an action film. Since Palicki does not have a hefty movie schedule in the future, she would easily sign a movie franchise.

Cons: Given how badly recieved the pilot was, Palicki might not be considered for the role.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

5: Odette Annable (Cloverfield)

Pros: In my opinion, Annable is one of the most underrated actresses in Hollywood. Aside from being absolutely beautiful, Annable delivered a strong performance in House. I think she would be great as Wonder Woman. Since she does not have a hefty movie schedule, Annable could sign on for a movie franchise.

Cons: After The Unborn, Annable has stuck to small films and television, so I am not sure whether or not she would take the role. Of course, a good script could change anyone's mind.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

4: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World)

Pros: Another fan favorite, Winstead delivered a great performance in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, proving that she can handle an action movie. Given how talented she is, I think she would get the role.

Cons: Winstead has been working on independent movies lately and is not currently interested in doing blockbuster movies. Of course, a good script could change anyone's mind.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

3: Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy)

Pros: Wilde has proven to be able to handle an action film like TRON: Legacy, and overall she is a good actress. She would be a great Wonder Woman.

Cons: I honestly cannot think any flaws for Wilde. She would be perfect for the role.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

2: Kate Beckinsale (Underworld)

Pros: Another fan favorite. The Underworld movies are solid proof that Kate Beckinsale would be great as Wonder Woman.

Cons: At 39, she might be a bit old to play Wonder Woman. However, there is still the possibilty of playing Hippolyta, if ever necessary.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia)

Pros: My personal choice for the role. Arterton delivered a strong performance in Prince of Persia and was one of the very few good things in the otherwise unwatchable Clash of the Titans. Arterton can play elegant and graceful women but can also be strong and aggressive when needed to be, which is exactly what Wonder Woman needs.

Cons: I honestly cannot think any flaw for Arterton. She is perfect for the role.

Gemma Arterton would be my only choice on this list be a big hellz no to Carano and Stewart. The entire time I was watching Prince of Persia I thought WW should look like her but IDK we should have an unknown who is willing to go thru extensive training and make herself into WW.

Ummm......when exactly was Justice League confirmed for 2017? There was a report that WB/DC would announce it for 2017 at SDCC 2013, but they did NOT announce it, so where are you getting this anyway?

As for who should do it, Beckinsale 7-10 yrs ago would have been perfect, as would several other actresses who are now too old. (Jessica Biel is probably too old now too.) I wouldn't mind Palicki, or Arterton, or Wilde. I actually think Stewart could handle it too. She might be like Michael Keaton was for Batman, someone that everyone hated the idea of until they actually saw the movie. But, I wonder if there isn't some unknown actress out there who would be better than any of these, or at least someone not as well known like Reeve was at first or Cavill too for that matter. If I remember right, Linda Carter was mainly a model/beauty contestant before being Wonder Woman.

Malin Akerman is one of the most beautiful women in the world. I would love to see her play Wonder Woman. Unfortunately I don't think she has the acting chops to pull it off. With that being said I think Kate Beckinsale would be a more fan favorite choice. With all this Wonder Woman talk lately I think WB should focus on a Flash film. Flash would be a great solo movie and quit frankly I don't know why WB hasn't made a move pushing that project. Instead they continue to focus on Batman and Superman.

I think its a sad sad day when 39 is too old. Wonder WOMAN is a grown mature woman not a little girl trying to be a mature woman (thats what Halle Berry looked like playing Storm...and she wasnt even in her 20s playing Storm...imagine an even younger actress playing Storm!). If 20 anything is in the age of any actress up for the role she is too young. Wonder Woman is born and matures to the height (or peak) for a woman and that is not in their 20s. If she is going to stand along side Henry Cavill and Matt damon among others, she cannot be shorter than 5'8. Wonder woman is a character that you have to think out every single aspect involving the character to make the casting process work. You also have to consider (unfortunately) we live in an asthetic driven society and immediately she must look right in the costume. Now that costume is so iconic because of how it looks on a super curvy, grown mature cartoon woman and there are PLENTY of curvy actress on this list that fits the bill immediately others that would look ridiculous in the costume...thereby distracting the audience and losing the attention of the story. Plus this is WONDER WOMAN not some run of the mill female super hero; this is the most famous and iconic female super hero of all time, lets make sure we have checked out all available A list female actress that could play the role. Considering the above my top choices would be Charlize Theron would be brilliant, Olivia Wilde (though she would need to gain some weight), Gina Carano (astheticly yes; thou I dont know her acting...). Now Catherine Zeta Jones (10 years earlier would have been ideal) that can be said since she is in ther 40s now. However, Wonder Womans mother (Hipolyte) is not much older than Wonder Woman so CZJ would be a great Hipolyte!

Plus I find it funny how people say Ryan Reynolds still to this day would be a great Flash and he is practically the same age as Charlize and Kate. Not to mention Christian Bale, Robert Downey Jr, Edward Norton wasnt exactly spring chickens playing their roles. Its sad what we do to our female actresses.
