BOX OFFICE: WONDER WOMAN Is Holding Better Than Any Other Superhero Movie In The Past 15 Years

Wonder Woman exceeded expectations when it opened last month and weeks later, the movie continues to overperform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie boasts the best hold of any superhero film in over 15 years at the North American box office, an incredible result when you think that the last decade and a half has seen the release of the likes of The Avengers and The Dark Knight.

Currently in its seventh weeks of release, Wonder Woman looks set to ultimately earn upwards of $390 million domestically and that makes it the eighth biggest comic book movie of all-time and puts it ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! The DC Comics adaptation will earn roughly 3.8 times the $103.3 million it made during its opening weekend and that's a massive multiple for the genre.

"It feels like Wonder Woman will play all the way through August," Warner Bros.' Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution tells the trade. "Right now, the movie is still in about 3,000 locations. Usually, the theater count would be a fraction of that at this point." Overseas, Wonder Woman has made $380 million for a global cume of $750 million. That's an epic result and one which is better than anyone initially thought. Needless to say, the studio will want to hurry up with the sequel!

I expected more overseas, though. Maybe they should level up their promotion?

It's a shame I couldn't see it, it was only in one theater near me for like a week, but glad it's doing great

I really hope they don't rush the sequel, just make it good. We don't want another Iron Man 2 on our hands.

@soberchimera - If they're smart, they won't use Wonder Woman to build into the next event film. That's what ruins the potential of SO many Comic Book Movies. When they try to fit a subplot that leads to their big event film into the film that already has its own fully fleshed out story.

Such a great movie..not perfect but great.

Though I really wished it was doing better overseas. I really hope Japan brings in another 10 million for the movie.
