WONDER WOMAN Star Gal Gadot's Time As Diana Prince Reportedly Over...And The Rock Is Likely Gone Too

Henry Cavill may have been the first to go, but it appears he won't be the last! Gal Gadot's time as Wonder Woman is reportedly nearing its end, while The Rock - and a number of others - are also gone.

The news that Henry Cavill's time as Superman has ended was not remotely well-received by DC fans, particularly as it came mere weeks after he announced his return to the world.

With a reboot in the works from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, it's become apparent he and Peter Safran are going back to the drawing board when it comes to the DCEU DCU. All signs point to a full-blown reboot, especially amid reports Jason Momoa will swap his role as Aquaman to play Lobo instead.

Recently, it was confirmed that Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 will not happen in its current form because it doesn't fit into DC Studios' plans. While no one has come out and definitively said the threequel has been scrapped, that's the current expectation, and scooper @DanielRPK is now claiming Gal Gadot's time as Diana Prince is at an end.

This means her final DCEU appearance is likely a rumoured cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. On Friday, we learned Gadot has been cut from The Flash, though it's since been said only one of her scenes has been scrapped. We'll see.

While this is big enough news on its own, anonymous scooper @MyTimeToShineH is now claiming to have learned who is in and out of the DCU. It seems we'll be bidding farewell to the entire Justice League, along with Shazam actor Zachary Levi and Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson (no great surprise after recent events).

Here's where things could get controversial, though.

It sounds like Gunn intends to keep actors he's cast in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, something that's bound to only further incense fans of the Snyderverse. We're taking this with a pinch of salt for now, but it's a little odd to keep characters who starred in a movie, that while critically successful, was deemed a box office flop due to its dual release in theaters and on HBO Max. Fingers crossed the DC Studios boss chimes in to clear things up.

What are your thoughts on this latest DCU development?

Well yea they scrapped her sequel and are rebooting everything

@ForceofWakanda - you didn't read the source, did you?

This person is suggesting a good number of people from the universe are staying, such as the suicide squad, peacemaker, viola Davis, and gunns wife.

@Origame -

I did read that. I also saw that several of the old guard are out.

I'm aware that they're keeping a few things....that doesn't mean they're not rebooting everything

@Origame - Well Maybe ? Kinda Sort of ? If everything up to this point is in another universe they can continue with it piecemeal on streaming and have the movies be their own separate thing. I would think that would mean no duplication so streaming would get C-Listers at most. But that is pure, unbridled speculation on my part.

Origame - 12/19/2022, 11:13 AM
@JDL - ...but that's not everything.

If anything this is more why we need to wait for Gunn to announce something.

Ok but that's just being pedantic. I'm sure you get the gist of the point

@Origame - the pattern lately has been and Gunn will probably catch on is a media outlet makes broad sweeping conclusive claims about his plans then he comes on twitter to clarify and shoot it down. hence forth through some reverse psychology he is slowly reveling his slate and plans early to debunk bullshit.

@Origame - I mean, Spider-Man got a complete reboot, but kept J Jonah, so yeah
Origame
Origame - 12/19/2022, 11:46 AM
@supermanrex - I mean, not really.

Take his breakdown of those massive plans. He said some were true, some were false, and some were partially true. With no indication of which was which.
Origame
Origame - 12/19/2022, 11:48 AM
@comicfan100 - thats one minor character who has been played by the same actor in other media. This is an entire film cast AND an entire TV show cast.
comicfan100
comicfan100 - 12/19/2022, 12:07 PM
@Origame - I guess it does look bad, but to be fair, those casts were Gunn's choice and like it or not, he's the head of DC Studios right now. I'll reserve my judgement until I can see what he delivers. So far, he hasn't missed.
Origame
Origame - 12/19/2022, 3:52 PM
@comicfan100 - check out the new article here. This is already proven to be wrong by Gunn himself.
supermanrex
supermanrex - 12/19/2022, 4:58 PM
@Origame - but then he revealed the superman news right after to i think calm down the speculation a little. he said there would be more news at the beginning of the year but i bet the powers that be would prefer to wait til comic con so as not over shadow the basically useless remaining film slate they trying to milk money out of before the reboot or whatever the hell he is doing.

@supermanrex - ...dude. I'm talking now. We just got Gunn debunking this exact "reveal".
supermanrex
supermanrex - 12/19/2022, 5:36 PM
@Origame - gunn's debunk actually made it more unclear. does it mean he is recasting everyone and not excluding Suicide Squad or is he not recasting everyone
Origame
Origame - 12/19/2022, 5:50 PM
@supermanrex - thats the thing. We don't know. All we know is this is objectively wrong.

@Origame - There are some existing DC projects that exist in the current DCEU continuity that aren't overly tied into the main story of it so I'd think those characters don't necessarily have to be recast or rebooted.

The Suicide Squad, for example, references some characters by name but the story and events of that movie are pretty much stand alone. That cast could pretty much remain (although, the SS is usually a rotating roster anyway). Although Margot's Harley has interacted with the current DCEU Batman and Joker, I don't think it would be a major thing if she continued in the new DCU.

Same thing with Shazam and its cast. The first movie references other DC characters by name but the movie itself doesn't involve any of them and is it's own thing (sounds like Fury of the Gods will do the same). Even though Superman makes a cameo at the end of Shazam we don't see his face so they could get away with retrospectively saying it's not Henry's Superman.

Peacemaker did have the current Justice League show up, but as it was just a cameo I don't think it's enough to say that the show has to be reworked and recast so that it fits into the new DCU.

So I'm not surprised that the current major characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the JL) could be recast, but I don't see why the others can't remain.
Origame
Origame - 12/20/2022, 8:00 PM
@bcom - ...the suicide squad is a direct sequel to suicide squad. And that had heavy ties to the larger dceu.
Origame
Origame - 12/20/2022, 8:01 PM
@bcom - and considering they very blatantly had those characters in peacemaker, you can't gloss that over. They were there.
bcom
bcom - 12/20/2022, 8:22 PM
@Origame - True. But The Suicide Squad had mostly new characters apart from Harley, Amanda Waller, Rick Flag and Boomerang (both who died during the movie). Like I said, the SS is largely a rotating cast of characters so it's likely another SS movie would feature a whole new crew anyway. The carry over characters weren't really major players in the DCEU's storyline anyway so I don't think it would be a major thing to have them continue on.

I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the new plan is and I'm sure then everything will make sense.
Origame
Origame - 12/20/2022, 8:30 PM
@bcom - dude, like only one of those characters didn't have a major role in the film. Two of them were major players in the ensemble and one of them was just as involved as the first one.
bcom
bcom - 12/20/2022, 9:15 PM
@Origame - Again, like I said, The Suicide Squad is always a changing roster of characters so it is likely that a new SS movie would probably feature all new characters anyway.

If they keep Waller and her team cast as they are I don't really see that as a major issue. Only Waller interacted with Ben's Bruce Wayne but that was only in a post credit cameo. I think it'd be like keeping Judi Dench as M in Casino Royale even though it breaks continuity with her last appearances. If they can make the story fit around it then it's not so jarring.

Gunn has said that not every character is being recast so whatever he has planned will probably make sense in the long run.
Origame
Origame - 12/20/2022, 9:24 PM
@bcom - ...but it still can't be Canon in this hypothetical sequel.

And even if it was, what's the point if it's all new characters in this hypothetical scenario?

Also, Judi Dench in the reboot bond films made zero sense.
bcom
bcom - 12/21/2022, 12:05 AM
@Origame - In the comics, the Suicide Squad can consist of different characters. It’s not always the same exact group. It’s whoever is incarcerated in the super-max prison at the time that Waller needs a job done. Just like in The Suicide Squad, only Rick Flag, Harley and Boomerang are from the first movie plus Boomerang dies at the start. There can be another Suicide Squad movie without using the same group as before.

I agree that Judi Dench’s M makes no sense time line wise in Casino Royale but as Bond always has an M to report to why not carry over someone the audience is familiar with to continue the role? It’s just something you don’t even think about anymore when you’re 30 minutes into the movie.

I am sure Gunn & Safran have worked out who it makes sense to keep and who it makes sense to recast. We will find out the who and the why in due course.
Origame
Origame - 12/21/2022, 4:14 AM
@bcom - ...in the comics when they do that it's still the same continuity.
bcom
bcom - 12/21/2022, 11:52 PM
@Origame - We’ll just have to wait to see what the plan is. I’m guessing once we get official info everything will start to make sense.
Origame
Origame - 12/22/2022, 7:05 AM
@bcom - you don't even know if it's reliable. In fact, it's not. It's not that this will make sense. It's that it's wrong.

@JackRussoff3 - Gal seems to be a good person but acting wise she was easily the worst casting , some will say Ezra but I think if he wasn't such a POS groomer he could have been a decent Wally west.
