WONDER WOMAN 3 Officially In The Works; Lynda Carter Hints At Return As Asteria

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins confirmed that she's working on a third solo outing for Diana Prince during DC FanDome earlier today, and it sounds like the original small-screen Amazon, Lynda Carter, will be along for the ride.

Carter made a brief appearance in the mid-credits scene of WW84 as legendary warrior Asteria, who was believed to have been killed when she sacrificed herself in order to allow her fellow Amazons to escape "the tide of man" and settle on the island of Themyscria. Neither Carter or Jenkins actually confirmed the the former will reprise the role for the third movie, but some pretty major hints were dropped!

"We're super excited about Wonder Woman 3," said Jenkins. "Gal, who is the busiest person in the world with now three little kids and shooting, she's so bummed not to be able to be here. But we are all three very excited about some exciting things coming up with Wonder Woman 3." Carter then added, "Who would have thought in my life at this time in my life that this gift would just present itself to me, and that's so cool."

Sounds like she may have said a little too much, as this photo shared by Jim Lee shortly after can attest to!

Very little is known about Warner Bros.' plans for Wonder Woman 3, but after the decidedly mixed response to WW84, we wouldn't be surprised if the studio asked Jenkins to go back to the drawing board on the story outline. Regardless, it'll probably be a while before we get any more updates, because the filmmaker's next project is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which has set a 2023 release date.

@DenimChicken - she needs to let someone else handle the story on pt. 3. And I mean she shouldnt even sit in on any meetings involving story. I want Patty to show up day 1 of filming and not know what happens yet.

I loved the first one, but the second one was a huge misstep. I’ve loved Patty’s other work but wouldn’t mind a new director like Kari Skogland.

This movie is gonna suck. Patty Jenkins is a one hit wonder. I have no faith in her Star Wars movie either

@TheShape9859 - One hit wonder? Both Monster and Wonder Woman were great, and she’s only directed three movies. That’s a pretty good batting average.

@TheShape9859 - typical behavior. One bad movie and all faith goes down the drain.

Let this trilogy runs its course, if Gadot wants to stick around great, if not just reboot it into The Batman Universe.

Need a new DCEU and its a good place to start

@dracula - I think they should just eventually reboot everything in The Batman universe. They don't even need to do origins, since set photos show that atleast Superman and Wonder Woman already exist in that universe

@dracula - my only concern with that is how grounded this Batman film might be. It might be a little jarring if this universe has the big league justice leaguers.

I’m good. Patty proved she doesn’t understand the character or really care about the source material with WW84. She watched the tv show growing up and thinks that’s all there is to the character and that’s very apparent by that trainwreck. We could have had an epic trilogy surrounding modern interpretations of Greek mythology like was done well in Brian Azarello’s New 52 run and instead it seems we are getting nostalgia for 70’s tv that ignores most of the source material.
