Don't get me wrong, I DO NOT want to see Wolverine in a movie until the entire franchise gets rebooted years down the line, but if they really want him in their story, then give a waiting period of at least 5 years. Now, I can't imagine anyone other than Hugh Jackman in the role, but everyone deserves a shot. So, when they eventually decide to recast James Howlett/Logan/Wolverine, they can provide a more clear origin and follow the comics a little better than with Jackman. We can all agree that Jackman's representation of the classic mutant wasn't entirely comic accurate, but his performance more than makes up for that. This is where they get a redo and have time to shine.
I'd imagine several years down the line, with Tye Sheridan's Cyclops and Sophie Turner's Jean Grey have established motives and characteristics to the point where we all care about them, we can be reintroduced to The Wolverine. They have a few options of reintroducing such a character:

End Credits Scene: Scene opens with a shot of laboratory hallways, dead bodies everywhere, blood on the walls. Announcement over the radio: Weapon X has escaped, Repeat, Weapon X has escaped! Final shot of a door open and a silhouette walking through a snow storm with blood dripping from three adamantium claws. This scene could be elaborated on in a possible origin story or flashback for Logan.

Have Logan show up as a supporting character or cameo in a different FOX Marvel movie: Every comic book fan knows Wolverine first appeared in an Incredible Hulk comic. They could have Logan show up in the same role as the comic. Say, The X-Men need help taking down a beast of an enemy, a Wendigo perhaps, and they send for help. Department H sends The Wolverine. Anything to basically "give" Wolverine to the X-Men.

Solo Film: We've had a trilogy of solo Wolverine films (Plus, all the X-Men movies are basically Wolverine movies), but this would probably be the easiest route for them. 2 hours to flesh out a new version of Wolverine, a lot of pressure riding on that. Then again, 20 minutes worked for Tom Holland's Spider-Man, so you never know.
