Benjamin Walker Cast As Beast In X-Men: First Class, Fassbender In Talks

It seems as if the earlier rumor reported by Multi has been confirmed, but it will be the bouncing blue Beast and not Banshee that Walker will be portraying in Mathew Vaughan's X-Men: First Class. Also, Michael Fassbender may well be playing Magneto, as EW confirm the negotiations are on..

Showbiz411 are reporting that Walker has indeed been cast in Mathew Vaughan's upcoming X prequel..

Matthew Vaughn’s “X Men: First Class” is picking up another cast member. Benjamin Walker, star of the Public Theater’s “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,” is the name to remember. He’s going to play Beast, the character played in “X Men 3″ by Kelsey Grammer.

Walker is, like Grammar, is a Juilliard grad and is apparently the hottest newcomer in New York theater this season. His work includes portraying Kinsey (at age 19) in Kinsey, and Harlon Block in Flags of Our Fathers. Walker was also featured in the short-lived CBS drama series 3 lbs.

Here he is in action..

Having never seen the dude act, aside from that brief glimpse on stage, I have no opinion on him from that perspective. But listening to him talk in that interview, I get the impression he might be a good fit for the gentle, intellectual side of a young Hank McCoy. Will he measure up for the physicality the role will(should) require? This has still to be officially confirmed by Fox of course, but word is that Showbiz411 are pretty reliable with their info.

In other First Class news, Entertainment Weekly are confirming that Michael Fassbender is indeed in negotiations to Play a young Magneto in the film..

James McAvoy has found his nemesis. Twentieth Century Fox is in negotiations with German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender for the role of Erik Lensherr, the man who becomes Magneto in the X-Men origin story X-Men: First Class. Fassbender, who most recently appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, has been a hot commodity of late: Rumor has it he was considered for the villain role in the reboot of Columbia Picture’s Spider-Man.

He looks just like pre-blue furball Hank McCoy looked. I hope they go original with this.

He would have to be the pre mutated beast. Unless Brian Singer intends on screw up this version of the X-Men as well. Which he probably will, so go with seeing him in blue. =)

tairygreen - 6/17/2010, 7:05 PM
Very Nice!! Now I hope he is the human form and they show him becoming infected by the virus from Apocalypse which makes him lose his intelligence then becoming the furry guy he is. Hopes for doing this right!!!

At this point, they could cast all of my favourite actors and I'd still be skeptical about this movie. We'll wait and see I guess...I just hope they go for the human Hank first!

Whaaaaat? Beast remains intelligent even with his blue fur and claws.

If they are basing it of First Class, he won't be blue and hairy

So is this a prequel, reboot, preboot? Or what the hell? Are they pretending the previous four movies(borigins, in the words of LEEE, included) never happened or what?
Codeseven
Codeseven - 6/17/2010, 7:13 PM
tairygreen@ that's what i hope happens also.
hopefully this movie does the x-men franchise justice. if this movie just turns into another one of singers crap movies with cyclops getting the shaft and the whole movie revolving around one character then i'm going to boycott any marvel cbm that aren't released by marvel.

Come on Anil, use your head. The first part of the movie will most likely take place in WWII thus the casting of a young Magneto. Im willing to bet my life that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will reprise their roles.

@dead
Not when he first becomes infected, he is struck with a virus that makes him super strong but the strong he get the more intellect he loses. that's what the trade of is for the fur. He gains it all the intellect back but has to live with blue fur forever
Codeseven
Codeseven - 6/17/2010, 7:15 PM
angelargiel@ i'm hoping that this is a "preboot". the first 3 x-men movies suck enough that i hope we can just forget about them and start fresh.

Yeah, no complaint here. The other characters in the movie is still confusing though. It's like everyone is the same age.

Although I liked the first two movies, I hope First Class distances itself from other movie continuity. They'll have to glue on some arm hair on the guy, but he's got the right build to be Hank.

I would hope this is a bit of a reboot
to bring the characters into line with
Canon more accurately. But my hopes are
not high!

It would be great to see him in his non-
blue form and then get his bluish fur
somewhere in the film.

But this is Singer & FOX and even if Vaughn
tries to do things more accurately FUXED-UP
FOX & Sucky Singer will find some way to
screw the pooch!

Codeseven - 6/17/2010, 7:28 PM
tairygreen@ you're talking about when he is touched by pestilence, one of apocalypses horsemen. can't remember exactly how it all goes but every time he uses his super strength he loses intelligence because of a serum he was injected with. what you are talking about has nothing to do with his origins and such. :)
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 6/17/2010, 7:29 PM
He looks decent.
Codeseven
Codeseven - 6/17/2010, 7:29 PM
plus his fur came along before he was injected with the serum. but he lost his fur because the serum he was injected with was supposed to rid him of his mutant power of something of that nature.

Considering Singer showed a human Hank in X2 the possibility of him being in human form is pretty high.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 6/17/2010, 7:35 PM
Osiris : That's not necessarily true. Hank wore a mask of his old face in public long after he grew fur because he was not comfortable being blue and furry.

AngelAragiel: He is on the TV in a news report.
Upupandaway
Upupandaway - 6/17/2010, 7:48 PM
@AngelAragiel- I'm pretty sure it was a very short scene with him on a news cast being interviewed.

@Ckal- I saw the first two films before getting into the X-men comics, so I was less encumbered by the source material, but I get what you're saying though. I've read a lot since. I think it's kind of lame that they only used Magneto/the Brotherhood as villains in the movies. I would love to someday see the Hellfire Club and Cassandra Nova on screen some day(I started with reading New and Astonishing X-men so they have a special place).
AngelAragiel
AngelAragiel - 6/17/2010, 7:49 PM
@Hawks thanks, is the scene where Mystique drugs the guard, right? I've just watched in my copy. Can't believe I never noticed that.

Cant tell if this is a reboot. All the characters mentioned fit into the movie timeline. Xavier, cyclops, magneto, beast, and emma frost are all characters who were active before the events of the first movie. The question is whether or not they add angel and iceman, who are distinctly younger in the movies and join later, that will determine if this is a reboot.

Anil-100% man. She is a looker indeed.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 6/17/2010, 7:58 PM
My guess is that it will be a reprequel..a rebooted prequel! They will follow the events of the first films and the continuity, but also alter and change certain things. I wouldn't expect to see Angel or Iceman in the team though.
AngelAragiel
AngelAragiel - 6/17/2010, 8:03 PM
Sounds cool Anil, but i actually would rather see the original five in it.
I'm guessing this would be like that whole thing with sabretooth from X1 and the one from borigins.

@Anil, well that is true, colossus deserves more on screen time than what he got. But I don't think the first two were messed I actually enjoyed them, apart from getting Magneto twice I mean. But like I always said or write that's just my opinion.
Upupandaway
Upupandaway - 6/17/2010, 8:53 PM
@Anil- I would really like to see all out freaky psychic powers a la Astonishing X-Men where you don't know what the hell is going on, what's real, and so on. I know I might get some grief for this, but I'm glad there won't be any Wolverine (at least I think so) in this movie. Nova is one of my most favorite X-villains because she's so freaky.

odie00 - 6/17/2010, 9:00 PM
i dont know why but to me he kind of looks like eric bana haha i have no idea why. is this movie going to be a reboot and not have anything to do with the other xmen films. considering the 5 original xmen are suppose to be in it so it would have to be a kind of reboot to make sense. i just hope iceman isnt gay like he was in the other boys i freaking hated him in those and angel in 3.

So Beat and Professor X are going to be the same age in this movie?
ZombieOverEasy
ZombieOverEasy - 6/17/2010, 9:34 PM
With how they played Beast in X-3 the fur was part of his mutation, so I'm voting he'll be blue...

I'm hopeful for this, seems like good casting, IMO.

I can handle blue furry beast, but would prefer original beast. Cat-face beast is UNACCEPTABLE!
