After Secret Wars concludes, there will be an eight month jump to the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe, and CBR have the first details on the latest X-book: Extraordinary X-Men. Writer Jeff Lemire (who will work with artist Humberto Ramos and colourist Edgar Delgado) reveals that these characters will be shaken up by a big mutant/Inhuman event once Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic wrap up their story. "In the missing eight months since Secret Wars, something has occurred between mutantkind and the Inhumans," he says. "A major event has occurred which has reshaped the position of both Inhumans and mutants in the Marvel Universe and repositioned them in a different way that maybe fans aren't used to. And that's where our story picks up and that's the story we're telling." What this may be, Lemire doesn't spoil, but he does make a note of the sea of Terrigen Mist around the team on the cover below...
He further explains that a number of prominent X-Men, such as Cyclops, will go missing, with Storm leading a team consisting of Nightcrawler, Magik, Colossus, the adult Iceman, teenage Jean Grey from All-New X-Men, and Old Man Logan. The writer says that this is indeed "the core team" in the new Marvel U, and aimed to create an "iconic" line-up in the vein of Joss Whedon and Chris Claremont. "I want to do the same [as Whedon and Claremont] and create a very iconic, classic feeling X-Men team but also add my own voice and my own style and my own ideas to it, and filtered through my imagination, and hopefully to have a really great X-Men run. There are so many great X-Men runs before, so there's a lot of pressure to live up to some of those. But I feel very confident in what I'm doing and an artist like Humberto helping, I feel like we have something very special." Below is Ramos' cover for Extraordinary X-Men #1, as well as our first look at interior art. Are you looking forward to the team's take on the Merry Mutants?
