Hugh Jackman Reinvigorated About X-MEN Franchise; "Less Sure" About Leaving
It's been long assumed that X-Men star Hugh Jackman would be leaving his claws behind after Wolverine 3, but now it sounds like he might be having a change of heart. At a recent premiere, he said the franchise has never felt fresher & that he's more interested in returning. Check it out!
Hugh Jackman landed the iconic role of Wolverine sometime in 1999 and since then, he has stepped into the career-defining role a record 7 times. Recently, many have speculated that he might only have two more appearances left in him, those appearances being 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse and 2017's The Wolverine 3. He has even made several comments over the past few weeks which indicate that he has been thinking about the future and when it might be time to retract his adamantium claws for the final time.
However, after speaking with IGN at the X-Men: Days of Future Past premiere in his home country of Australia, it seems like he might be having a change of heart about leaving his claws behind. Check out his comments below:
"At one point, you're right, I said I was pretty sure (about leaving the role). But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie...I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me."
Now, while this isn't official studio confirmation, it is the closest we've gotten to some sort of confirmation that Hugh Jackman is interested in returning after The Wolverine 3. If this franchise can continue to produce high-quality films, it seems likely that Jackman will return as Wolverine once again in a future X-Men film and depending on where the franchise is heading after X-Men: Apocalypse, he might be able to either reunite with his cast from the original trilogy or he might be able to join forces with the First Class cast. The possibilities are endless.
