Jane Goldman Working On X-Men: First Class Script?

Jane Goldman Working On X-Men: First Class Script?

Some tweets from her hubby would suggest so...

Last week, it was made official that Matthew Vaughn is going to direct X-Men: First Class for 20th Century Fox. It was revealed then that Thor co-writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz would do a few rewrites on the script with plans to start making the movie this summer for a June 3, 2011 release.

It looks like they won't be the only ones working on the script, however. Jonathan Ross tweeted today that his wife, Jane Goldman "is away writing X Men 4 so I am off to bed with little Sweeney alone." We're pretty sure Ross meant "First Class," as Goldman co-wrote the scripts for Stardust and Kick-Ass with Vaughn. She also co-produced the latter.

Ror: "Wossy" has posted a few follow up tweets since...

Also, for those who need to know, my wife IS currently writing X men First Class. It's just referred to as X men 4 around the house...

I am afraid I better not answer any more queries re X Men First Class for fear of spoilers and also possible divorce. Thank you.

So what do you guys think? Good or bad?

first things first, she is avery beautiful woman. ok now that is out of the way, lol. is this a reboot or not? they say it is following the classic marvel mythology, to me that says reboot. if it is a reboot that does follow the clasic mythology than i will be first in line. if it is a prequal than i will be outside the theater picketing, lol.

I really don't know if that's good or bad.I really don't know what her range is.I liked both those movies, especially Kick-Ass, but they are very different from what First Class should be.I do think she is a good writer, and I hope First Class has a more serious tone than Stardust and Kick Ass.

I guess if you're trying to make a movie in a year, you do need about three writers.I just wish they would confirm if this is a prequel, or the start of a new franchise.I think it makes better since to reboot, because it gives you more freedom for storytelling.

Well this shows that Vaughn is trying to get in his input since she's a key writer of his.

This could potentially be very good news! However, the dodgy second half of Kick-Ass (cough, jetpack, cough!) which didnt follow the comic book as the first part of the movie did makes me doubt just how right Goldman would be for the job...cant deny though that this is still pretty good news though, I just have mixed feelings! :P

Oh, on second thoughts though it's actually more likely that she really is writing a script for X-Men 4 as I recently posted an interview with the First Class writers (who also wrote Kenneth Branagh's Thor) who had only just re-written the script! Mark Millar also recently claimed that he'd been asked to write the fourth movie so maybe there is actually one on the way as well as First Class!?!

I am so sick of this stupid woman. Does anyone know how she got started? She wrote some articles when she was 18 year old model, and then some erotic stories! She got the job on stardust cos she was a friend of the director. That's how she got kick-ass and now X-Men. She needs go back to being Jonathan Ross' wife and let people who have spent 10 years trying to break into the industry do screenwriting. It's a damn disgrace!!!

no reboot/remakes till marvel gets the rights back. fox will just remake it and screw it up again. by the way while fox has the rights and are making x-films they should do x-4,first class,gen-x,new x-men,district-x,and wolverine 2. i really hope when marvel gets the rights back they remake from the begining, then later bring in the new x-men beak, glob, angel salvador, anole, (etc)then do a generation-x,and district-x. marvel know whats up and what to do to make it right.

whats your issue with Jane Goldman she worked hard aswell like everyone else. plus so what she got the job cause shes friend of director. that mean you might aswell say the same damn thing for every one else in hollywood. most of them work with friends anyway.

Maybe

@shifty sharp, nah not really, I didn't laugh and although I could sit through it, I wasn't at any one point sitting with a big smile on my face. It was OK. I don't think the dialogue was witty and I feel that it was abit over hyped.

@jazzman, My issue is that she hasn't worked hard. At all. Living in the UK and working in the industry over here i can tell you, outright, where I live there are no jobs . Not one. I was actually told by a member of the local film society to move to London or Manchester to get work. I understand in America, if you have the money, has many schemes and the universities are great, but over here in the UK. There is sweet FA. So for him to just pluck her out, it pisses off alot of people I know. If she has talent, then great but she is unproven, Vaughn has talent, that is proven but this chick could have done very little and got a credit. And, not to go on and on but, Diablo Cody, was hailed as the best new writer after Juno. Then BANG, Jennifer's Body.

Sorry to go on, but it is something I feel very strongly about.

@gtrman, sure I apreciate it's not just Hollywood. But there is a huge difference between someone going, "Hey man you wanna job at Mcdonald's cos someone's getting fired tomorrow."

And, "Hey, I'm making a 100 million dollar movie, you wanna help me write it?"

That's crazy, at least have some prior experience on small films, indy cinema anything. Not just hey wanna help out.

@Galactus...my friend you have gone too far with the damn Macgruber ad. The other movie ads were not so bad cause we could just turn the sound off to ignore them. But this one takes over the screen and we are forced to watch Macgruber. I have been going to this site for many years and appreciate the great site you have created and all the people who work their butts off to bring all of the awesome articles to it. So I know you gotta pay bills for the site and what not, but the Macbruber ad has gone a bit too far.

On a different note...I usually hold back from making too harsh of a judgement until a movie comes out. With that said, its a FOX run comicbookmovie so we already know we can only get a B movie at best. The first 2 X-Men movies were pretty good but could have been so much more.

And there is no way we get the original fab five. Just ain't gonna happen.

first of im from the UK. also you saying Americans aint struggling with jobs the same way in the UK. you sir are wrong everywhere around the world are in the same situation.

plus he did not pluck her out he freaking knows her they are good friends. you telling me you would not help your own friend who knows about comic books to join you. most jobs nowadays you need a friend to hook you up.

you behaving like Matthew Vaughn owns you something. you must of been p*ss off when Guy Ritchie only had Matthew Vaughn as a producer then. what about Christopher Nolan only hiring his own brother and wife to be writter and producer for his movies OMG you must of been really upset.

Hewster - 5/11/2010, 10:19 AM
@ jazzman, I think I'm fighting a battle that I can't win. Look, some people are talented, Ritchie, Vaughn, The Nolans and some people sneak in through friends. I think it is far to early for articles like, "Is it a good thing she is on board?" We can't judge. When we find out what changes she made, if any, and if she writes a good script alone, then we can say how good she is. Obviously, her and Vaughn are good. I can appreciate that from other peoples comments. But her alone? We just don't know.

I'm sure you can understand that. I mean it's obvious you have some idea about the industry.

no surprise their.she done an excellent job on kick ass & stardust adaptions.

its not about who win or lose. its about you went all gun blasting on Jane Goldman about she wrote erotic stories and she wrote a article actually she used to write for Daily Star newspaper, games magazine, etc.

well most likely she and Vaugh will co-write thats the best thing to be honest. people that co-write does a better movie in my opinion. just imagine David S. Goyer wrote the whole The Dark Knight script on his own you know that would be a mess. he got ideas but he only works well with a co-writter.
Hewster
Hewster - 5/11/2010, 11:20 AM
@ jazzman, yeah, I'm the kinda guy who goes absolutely mental and then an hour later I'm sitting in a corner going, "Oooh, that was a bad idea."

I just hope it's good. If people don't like maybe I'll have a little chuckle to myself and if people love it then it just proves that I'm not in touch with what people want from comic book movies.

that man vs wolverine is how the films tone should be. and marvel should have the rights back and remake it,then add colossus and other later in the sequels, and others like beak as well.
MONTEZ
MONTEZ - 5/11/2010, 11:46 AM
beak? lets focus on putting havoc, poloris, before beak. even bishop shold be on screen before beak.

the only problem with this movie is its still been controlled by FOX Studio and how they can call it X-Men: First Class. i mean the actually members had Angel and Iceman.

I LOVE X-MEN & I really hope this will be a reboot. The 4 other WX-Men movies also known as "Wolverine & The X-Men" movies have been so & so. Not as good as it should've been. We def. need a fresh start with a story closer to the comics. We want the ORIGINAL X-Men characters from First Class. Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Jean Grey aka Marvel Girl, & Ice Man. No storm & NO WOLVERINE! Enough w/ that dude.
Hewster
Hewster - 5/11/2010, 12:25 PM
@jazzman, well to be honest I don't up much hope due to the idea.

You can't even talk about FOX cos literally they will do anything to get money. And that's it. Unfortunately they can never lose cos we go and see X-Men cos it's X-Men, or Ghost Rider, cos it's Ghost Rider. They make loads of money and then make a second one. Which, once again, we all go and see.

It's a vicious inescapable circle. Shame it'll cost Marvel hundreds of millions of dollars to get it back. Unless Disney step in.....
